Further, the gameplay does not allow arbitrary mixing of elements—players must use specific experimental conditions such as heating (Δ), electrolysis (⚡), light (hν), and catalysts (cat) to initiate reactions. For example, players learn that simply heating water does not break it down; it requires electrolysis to eventually separate hydrogen and oxygen.
