Jupiter Power Closes $1.4 Billion Financing for Battery Storage Expansion
In a significant development in the renewable energy sector, Jupiter Power LLC has successfully concluded financing agreements totaling $1.4 billion. This financing, structured across multiple transactions, is earmarked for ten utility-scale battery energy storage projects located in Texas and Michigan, boasting an impressive capacity of 1,500 megawatts (MW) and 3,600 megawatt-hours (MWh).
Jupiter Power, a pioneer in the battery energy storage space since its inception in 2017, has managed to secure funding through various mechanisms, including senior secured project debt and tax equity bridge loans. The latest financing rounds, which took place between April and July 2026, bring the total amount raised by Jupiter Power to over $3 billion since the company's founding. This demonstrates the growing investor confidence in the company's innovative energy storage solutions.
"These financings are a testament to our strong relationships with capital markets and our ability to execute effectively," stated Jesse Campbell, Chief Financial Officer at Jupiter Power. He emphasized that the company's continuous growth and expansive project pipeline are instrumental in building a robust energy storage platform in the United States.
Among the standout financing efforts was a landmark deal in July 2026, which marked Jupiter Power's largest project financing to date, amounting to $536 million. This financing will aid in the construction of three new projects in Texas, namely Tidwell Prairie II, Bee Branch, and Barton Branch. Notable financial institutions, including HSBC Bank US, N.A. and SMBC, played pivotal roles as lenders in this substantial financing effort.
Paul Snow, Head of Renewables at HSBC, expressed his enthusiasm about supporting Jupiter Power's growth journey, highlighting the important role that energy storage plays in ensuring grid resilience and stability. Similarly, Paul Jun, SMBC's Head of Power and New Energies Project Finance for North America, emphasized the company's commitment to advancing grid-scale battery storage solutions in the U.S. by partnering with innovative firms like Jupiter Power.
In addition to the July financing, Jupiter Power executed a $281 million senior secured note issuance and a letter of credit facility as part of a U.S. private placement rated BBB- by Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA). This issuance was backed by operational projects, such as Tidwell Prairie I and St. Gall II in Texas, alongside Tibbits in Michigan. Financial partners in this round included AB CarVal and Nuveen, with Barclays and HSBC Securities INC serving as placement agents.
Furthermore, the company secured a financing package worth $294 million in May 2026, designated for the construction of two additional projects, Grand Basin and Voyager I, in Michigan. This region, interconnected within the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) market, indicates Jupiter Power's continued expansion and diversification in deploying battery storage technology.
Jupiter Power also finalized a $258 million senior secured project financing in April 2026, designed to support the development and construction of two additional Texas projects, Callisto II and Pamela Heights I. This financing was coordinated by Societe Generale and MUFG, demonstrating a strong collaborative effort in supporting the growth of the battery storage sector.
With an operational footprint comprising 5.6 GW of projects—either online, under construction, or secured through contracts—and an additional 23 GW in development nationwide, Jupiter Power stands out as one of the largest and fastest-growing companies in the energy storage arena.
Jupiter Power's expansive reach spans from California to Maine, operating with headquarters in Austin and Houston, Texas, as well as Chicago, Illinois. The firm prides itself on its comprehensive expertise in trading, analytics, finance, operations, and construction within the energy sector, further validated by its unique capabilities in dispatch optimization.
In summary, Jupiter Power's recent financing endeavors not only reinforce its position as a leader in the renewable energy landscape but also reflect the heightened institutional interest in battery energy storage systems, which are crucial for ensuring a resilient and sustainable energy future for the U.S.
