LG CNS, a prominent leader in AI Transformation based in South Korea, recently showcased its cutting-edge pharma-specific manufacturing AX solutions at the CPHI Milan 2026, renowned as the largest show of its kind in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. With over 60,000 attendees and nearly 3,000 exhibiting companies representing more than 160 countries, CPHI serves as a pivotal platform for unveiling technological innovations in the industry.
At this year’s event, LG CNS adopted the theme "Autonomous Factory in Pharma" and introduced three state-of-the-art smart factory solutions designed to revolutionize factory design, production operations, and quality management processes for pharmaceutical and biotech organizations. Notably, LG CNS was the only Korean entity represented in the newly established "AI Tech" zone, emphasizing its commitment to leveraging AI within the industry.
The first cornerstone of LG CNS's offerings emphasizes factory design through their innovative product, Factova Worldworks. This digital twin-based simulator provides virtual validation by recreating pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities within a simulated environment. By meticulously modeling the factory layout, the tool optimizes the placement of production equipment, worker pathways, and raw material transfer routes, integral to preventing contamination.
Next, the manufacturing process is enhanced through Factova Control, which standardizes process data seamlessly across various production operations. This solution ensures that raw material IDs and formulations are immediately formatted into a coherent format, thus maintaining a consistent flow of information throughout the manufacturing cycle. In addition, it utilizes AI technologies to monitor and analyze critical equipment indicators such as electrical currents and temperatures, fortifying the facility against potential failures by flagging anomalies in real time.
To complement these advancements, LG CNS introduced a robust quality management solution. This innovative tool collects and analyzes key data associated with production volume, raw material temperature fluctuations, and equipment histories to assess product quality. What sets this system apart is its ability to respond proactively to process anomalies. When issues are detected, it computes alternative actions and redirects the production steps to mitigate defects efficiently. Furthermore, it employs an AI agent capable of generating the Annual Product Quality Review (APQR), streamlining a once labor-intensive and time-consuming manual process into a swift automated solution, thereby reducing the necessary time significantly.
Eddie Jang, the Head of the Chemical/Battery Division at LG CNS, highlighted, "The solutions we are showcasing are intricately designed to meet the unique needs of the pharma and biotech sectors, facilitating intelligent automation across the full spectrum of operations—from initial factory design to quality oversight. As a comprehensive provider, we aim to address the complexities associated with establishing pharmaceutical manufacturing sites, ensuring adherence to high precision and stringent quality benchmarks while enabling faster and more efficient production of medical products."
With its pioneering solutions, LG CNS stands at the forefront of transforming the pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape, demonstrating its ability to adapt to emerging technologies while continuously striving to support its clients in meeting industry demands. This innovative showcase at CPHI 2026 reinforces LG CNS's role as a vital player in the global pharma and biotech arena, advocating for intelligent strategies to enhance production efficiency and quality standards.
