Meiko Free School Expands to Ota and Edogawa in Tokyo, Offers New Choices for Non-attending Students

Meiko Free School's New Endeavors in Tokyo

In a groundbreaking move for education in Japan, Meiko Mirai Co., Ltd. has announced the opening of two new Meiko Free School branches in Ota and Edogawa wards of Tokyo by April 2026. This initiative aims to provide fresh educational options for students who are currently not attending regular schools, combating the stigma associated with truancy and promoting a nurturing environment for personal growth.

The Journey Thus Far

November 2025 marked the establishment of the model school in Minami Asagaya Shin Koenji (Suginami Ward, Tokyo), which has since attracted inquiries from various regions, indicating a growing demand for alternative educational solutions. However, students from distant locations face significant challenges due to travel logistics.

“One should not feel limited by the choice of not attending school,” states the Meiko Mirai leadership. Since its inception, Meiko Free School has aimed to broaden opportunities for non-attending students. By leveraging the existing network of Meiko Gakuin, the organization plans to open the new facilities using school hours in the morning and evening.

Tailored Support for Every Child

Drawing on years of experience running Meiko Gakuin, Meiko Mirai emphasizes a personalized approach to education. Individual support focuses on boosting children's strengths while addressing their weaknesses. The curriculum not only includes remedial education to catch up on missed studies but also introduces new learning opportunities in fields like programming and e-sports. This creates a space for students to meet new peers, learn valuable skills, and thrive in an encouraging environment.

National Expansion and Recruitment

The organization is not stopping at Tokyo; plans for nationwide expansion are firmly in place. Roles are available for establishing members in various locations throughout Japan, responding to the urgent need for educational support systems for non-attending students.
