Vinitaly Launches Exclusive Masterclass to Boost Italian Wine in Africa

On June 9, 2026, Vinitaly will debut in Cape Town, South Africa, with a prestigious masterclass titled "Thirteen Italian Estates, Two Masters of Wine." This event, organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in partnership with Veronafiere and Vinitaly, aims to elevate the status of Italian wine in emerging African markets, especially in South Africa, a dynamic and growing wine market.

The masterclass will be held at the Idiom Restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre, featuring renowned Masters of Wine Richard Kershaw and Andrea Lonardi. They will guide selected professionals from the agribusiness, trade, hospitality, and media sectors through a 90-minute tasting session showcasing thirteen remarkable Italian wines. Participating wineries include prestigious names such as Bottega, Braida di Giacomo Bologna, and Donnafugata, each represented by their respective winemakers.

Attendees will not only savor exquisite wines but also engage directly with the producers, gaining insights into the unique characteristics and identities of each wine. The goal is to strengthen Italian wine’s presence in the premium segment of South Africa's market, showcasing the diversity and richness of Italian wine regions from north to south.

Following the masterclass, guests will enjoy a walk-around tasting and a gala dinner attended by key representatives from the agricultural and wine industries. The walk-around portion will feature an array of wines from notable producers such as Cà del Bosco, Bellavista, Bottega, and Inama, among others.

This initiative reflects Veronafiere’s dedication to promoting Italian wine culture globally and creating significant networking opportunities. Federico Bricolo, President of Veronafiere, emphasized that this masterclass is a unique chance to discover the extraordinary excellence that Italian wines embody.

The prestigious Vinitaly has long been recognized as a premier international platform for the wine industry, having welcomed over 4,000 exhibitors and 90,000 visitors from around the world in its most recent edition in Verona. The next Vinitaly event is scheduled for April 12-15, 2027, continuing to focus on international business growth and educational advancements in the wine sector.

The masterclass at Cape Town promises to open new doors for Italian wine in Africa, setting the stage for fruitful collaborations and increased appreciation of Italy’s fine wines in this emerging market. With rising interest in premium wines across Africa, Vinitaly’s strategic move to engage local trade professionals is poised to enhance the visibility of Italian wines, paving the way for expansion into new markets.
