An Exquisite Display of Gold: Kenshiro's Life-sized Statue
Hokkaido is set to dazzle fans of the iconic manga
Hokuto no Ken with the debut of a breathtaking life-sized golden statue of its protagonist,
Kenshiro. Standing at approximately 1.93 meters tall and created using about
1,500 sheets of gold leaf, this remarkable piece will be on display during the
Great Golden Exhibition at the
Daimaru Sapporo store from
September 11 to 20, 2026. With an estimate price tag of
44 million yen, this statue encapsulates Kenshiro’s fierce yet serene spirit, as well as his stature as the rightful successor to the
Hokuto Shinken martial art.
The Great Golden Exhibition promises to be a feast for the eyes for gold enthusiasts, featuring over
1,000 exquisite gold items. With Japan’s gold retail prices soaring, this extravagant event showcases not only the golden Kenshiro but also a life-sized statue of
Raoh, another beloved character from the series, designed to captivate audiences with their imposing presence.
Collectible Gold Treasures
Aside from the majestic Kenshiro statue, attendees will also have the chance to purchase exclusive gold collectibles, including a
K24 Hokuto no Ken Kenshiro figurine, measuring around
11 cm tall and weighing approximately
60 g, priced at
5,368,000 yen. This high-purity gold figurine echoes the enduring popularity of Kenshiro, whose character remains vibrant through the newly launched anime series this year.
Additionally, the exhibition will present a special early sale of the gold coin featuring
on-chan, Hokkaido Television's cherished mascot, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Only
50 pieces of each type will be available, stored in custom boxes, each priced at
1,232,000 yen.
An Array of Golden Craftsmanship
The exhibition will also feature an impressive array of gold craftsmanship, such as
Buddhist implements and ornamental goldware crafted by living national treasures. Visitors can admire intricate pieces, ranging from gold utensils to auspicious decorative items. Each displayed item reflects Japan’s rich tradition of gold craftsmanship and is sure to inspire attendees.
Moreover, guests are invited to determine the value of their own gold and precious metal items, with on-site evaluations conducted through an X-ray analyzer, offering immediate cash offers for items such as broken chains and mismatched earrings.
A Cultural Celebration
The importance of these gold creations and collectibles goes beyond mere aesthetics; they symbolize a reverence for craftsmanship and cultural heritage. The display of these artifacts, along with the engaging atmosphere of the Great Golden Exhibition, invites guests to appreciate the artistry involved in gold production.
