VANCOUVER, BC, June 5, 2025 – In a significant step towards environmentally sustainable rail transport, Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP) has entered into a supply agreement with California's Sierra Northern Railway. This new partnership aims to tackle carbon emissions within the railway sector by equipping the railway operator with state-of-the-art fuel cell engines.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ballard will deliver 1.5 Megawatts (MW) of its advanced fuel cell technology, specifically 12 FCmove®-XD engines, in 2025. These engines are intended for retrofitting three existing diesel switching locomotives, converting them into hydrogen-powered, zero-emission machines. This initiative is aligned with Sierra Northern Railway's commitment to decarbonize its operations across California.
