Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities Celebrates Pat Sukhum's Legacy as CEO and Looks Ahead

Transition of Leadership at Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities

Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities recently announced a significant leadership transition as Pat Sukhum wraps up his role as Chief Executive Officer. This marks the conclusion of a transformative era for the organization, which has been dedicated to mentoring youth for over a century.

Sukhum's tenure has been characterized by bold initiatives that prioritize the needs of the community and the youth it serves. During his time, a comprehensive strategic plan was developed, focusing on fostering trusted relationships, establishing pathways for youth to succeed, and ensuring measurable results. Under his leadership, the organization managed to improve its financial standing significantly, allowing for long-term investment in its mission. Moreover, the organization made notable progress in rebuilding its numbers post-pandemic, successfully reversing declines in the number of youth served.

As a testament to the successful changes implemented during his leadership, Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities was awarded the 2023 Large Agency of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America—the first time the organization has received such a prestigious recognition nationally.

Steve Hentges, the Chair of the Board of Directors, expressed gratitude for Sukhum’s contributions, stating, "Pat arrived at a critical moment for our organization and our community. His optimism and boldness expanded our reach, inviting more partners to engage with our mission. He has shown us that our organization has the potential to be as impactful as our mission demands."

Reflecting on his experience, Sukhum remarked on the connections he made and the profound impact of the relationships built along the way. "This role stretched me in ways I never expected; it taught me the meaning of human connection in leadership,” he said. “Leading this mission has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”

Sukhum conveyed confidence regarding the organization's future, emphasizing the strength of its foundation and the enthusiasm of its community. "The best chapters of this story are still ahead,” he stated, alluding to the readiness for continued growth and expansion of mentoring opportunities.

As the organization transitions to find a new leader, Sukhum will remain engaged to ensure stability and knowledge transfer during the CEO search. The Board of Directors has enlisted Ballinger | Leafblad, a Minnesota-based executive search firm known for its work with nonprofit organizations, to facilitate a careful and inclusive hiring process.

In the coming months, Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities aims to celebrate and recognize Sukhum's impactful leadership journey while continuing to advance the mission together with its community, volunteers, donors, and partners. The organization acknowledges the unwavering support of these stakeholders as they move forward, building on the momentum achieved during Sukhum's years at the helm.
