Entergy Successfully Finalizes the Sale of Natural Gas Business to Delta Utilities
New Orleans, LA — July 1, 2025
Entergy Corporation announced today that it has successfully concluded the sale of its natural gas distribution business to Delta Utilities, a company under the umbrella of Bernhard Capital Partners, New Orleans-based. This strategic move aligns with Entergy's commitment to prioritize its expanding electric utility operations.
According to Drew Marsh, Chair and CEO of Entergy, this marks a significant milestone for the company. “Today signifies the completion of the transition of our natural gas business to Delta Utilities,” he stated. He expressed gratitude towards the dedicated gas employees who have worked diligently to ensure a consistent and reliable service for Entergy's gas customers.
Effective immediately, Delta Utilities will take over the day-to-day management and operations of gas distribution that Entergy once handled. This transition is expected to be seamless, as both companies are collaborating closely to ensure that gas customers in regions such as Baton Rouge and New Orleans experience no disruptions in service.
The transaction encompasses a wide-ranging network, including approximately 3,700 miles of natural gas pipelines and an additional 2,200 miles of service lines. Entergy's gas services catered to nearly 96,000 homes and businesses in the Baton Rouge area and around 108,000 in New Orleans. The sale not only represents a shift in business focus but also a commitment to customer service, which both companies continue to uphold.
Entergy had previously sought and received all necessary regulatory approvals for this transaction, securing consent from subsequent federal and state entities, such as the Louisiana Public Service Commission, city governmental bodies from Baton Rouge, and the New Orleans City Council. The regulatory verification bolstered the sale's credibility, ensuring that it was in the best interest of affected communities.
“This strategic transaction allows us to sharpen our focus on Entergy's growing electric operations and invest in a stronger, more resilient energy future for the communities we serve,” Marsh added. The overarching goal remains to enhance customer service and operational efficiency as Entergy shifts most of its focus back to the electric sector.
Entergy Louisiana services more than 1.1 million customers spread over 58 parishes, while Entergy New Orleans takes care of more than 209,000 residents in Orleans Parish. As a Fortune 500 entity, Entergy is dedicated to leveraging its resources for growth while optimizing energy service reliability. Moreover, the company is channeling investments toward cleaner energy strategies encompassing natural gas, nuclear power, and renewable energy.
A recognized front-runner in corporate responsibility and sustainability, Entergy impacts its communities through substantial annual charitable contributions and volunteer efforts. Such investments are key to building a future where both customers and the community thrive. As of now, Entergy boasts a workforce of approximately 12,000 employees, dedicated to powering the lives of about three million customers across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
