Maido Crowned The World's Best Restaurant 2025

In a highly anticipated announcement during the awards ceremony held in Turin, Italy on June 19, 2025, Maido, a restaurant in Lima operated by chef-owner Mitsuharu 'Micha' Tsumura, has been named The World's Best Restaurant for 2025. This honor is part of the recognized The World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. The occasion celebrates global culinary talent across 22 territories and five continents.

The restaurant Maido, which specializes in Nikkei cuisine, succeeds last year's winner, Disfrutar from Barcelona, and has climbed to the top from its previous position as No. 5 in 2024. Maido expertly melds traditional Japanese cooking techniques with vibrant Peruvian ingredients, creating a dining experience that is both culturally rich and innovative. The name 'Maido' is derived from a Japanese greeting that conveys hospitality, and this welcoming spirit is evident from the moment diners enter.

With its commitment to showcasing the finest local ingredients, Maido adapts its tasting menu throughout the seasons, featuring more than ten courses that take diners on a unique culinary journey. Following Maido in the prestigious ranking are Asador Etxebarri from Atxondo, Spain at No. 2, and Quintonil in Mexico City at No. 3.

William Drew, the Director of Content for The World's 50 Best Restaurants, expressed immense enthusiasm upon announcing Maido's accolade. He praised the establishment's team for their remarkable dedication in seamlessly blending Japanese techniques with traditional Peruvian flavors, producing exquisite dishes that both captivate and surprise customers.
