Introduction to the Oral Life Project
The SCO Group, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is taking a significant step towards promoting oral health with the launch of the Oral Life Project. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of preventive dental care and its connection to overall health. By collaborating with dental professionals, the project aspires to spread valuable information on dental care practices throughout Japan.
Background of the Initiative
Recent findings from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's survey underscore alarming statistics about dental health. While the occurrence of dental caries (cavities) in younger populations is decreasing, nearly half of all age groups are found to suffer from periodontal diseases. Shockingly, the survey also revealed that approximately 42% of people have not visited a dentist within the past year. Such statistics highlight the urgent need to promote dental check-ups to maintain both oral and systemic health. Research conducted in 2004 indicates that regular dental maintenance significantly influences the long-term retention of teeth. Therefore, the Oral Life Project was created to educate the public about the importance of preventive dentistry and dental maintenance.
Objectives of the Project
The primary goal of the Oral Life Project is to encourage more people to visit dental clinics regularly, ultimately contributing to both oral health and an extended healthy lifespan for the population.
Activities of the Project
1.
Information Dissemination: The Oral Life Project will launch a dedicated website featuring expert-reviewed articles that provide accessible insights regarding dental health, specific conditions, and preventive practices. This platform aims to make dental information easily understandable for the general public.
2.
Nudge Theory Implementation: A research initiative will explore utilizing nudge theory to enhance patient re-visit rates to dental clinics. The goal is to encourage individuals to make regular dental visits, even in the absence of discomfort, thereby fostering a culture of preventive care. The project will employ SCO Group's personalized messaging tool, Pay Light CX, to gently influence patient behavior through environmental cues and informative prompts rather than coercion.
