Freepoint Eco-Systems Secures $50 Million Financing for New Plastic Upcycling Facility
Freepoint Eco-Systems Closes $50 Million Finance Facility
On March 17, 2025, Freepoint Eco-Systems LLC announced a milestone achievement with the successful closing of a $50 million non-recourse project finance facility. This funding, provided by ING Capital LLC, is designated for the company's innovative plastic upcycling facility located in Hebron, Ohio. This facility is notably significant in the field of plastic waste management, being the first of its kind focused on hard-to-recycle plastics.
Jeff McMahon, Managing Director at Freepoint Eco-Systems, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with ING emanating from the growing accessibility to project finance loan markets geared towards new technological advances in plastic upcycling. He proudly mentioned that the new Hebron facility boasts a substantial processing capacity of 180 million pounds of plastic waste per year, positioning it among the largest commercial-scale plants globally. This facility specializes in reclaiming waste plastics that would otherwise be discarded in landfills or incinerated. It converts this waste into a hydrocarbon-rich liquid, serving as a valuable resource from which new products can be manufactured.
In his statements, McMahon underscored the significance of this finance transaction as a foundational step towards Freepoint's long-term strategy of developing numerous upcycling facilities worldwide. By reducing reliance on conventional waste disposal methods, Freepoint aims to bolster sustainability and promote circular economies.
Supporting this vision, Subha Pasumarti, Managing Director at ING Capital, remarked on the groundbreaking nature of the loan facility for Freepoint. He commented on ING's ongoing commitment to championing projects within the circular economy and sustainability sectors, underlining that as the demand for debt capital in the plastic recycling market grows, so too will the opportunities for financing innovative solutions to tackle global plastic waste challenges.
