Introduction
Sado Sushi Benkei is set to make a significant leap into the Kanto region with the opening of their largest flagship store in Tsudanuma, Chiba, by March 2026. Established in Sado City, Niigata, the restaurant has garnered acclaim through its 15 outlets both within and outside Niigata Prefecture.
The New Store
The new location, Sado Benkei Ion Mall Tsudanuma South, is designed to be a large sushi restaurant where guests can enjoy authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine amidst an environment that reflects Niigata's rich food culture. With 97 seats available, the restaurant features a variety of dining options, including counter seating for those who wish to observe the craftsmanship of the sushi chefs, VIP rooms for special occasions, family-friendly box seats, and group tables designed for celebrations.
A well-stocked bar counter will offer a selection of Sado and Niigata local sake, making the restaurant appealing not only to families and younger guests but also to the elderly. Sado Sushi Benkei aims to cater to a wide range of customers, from everyday diners to those celebrating special occasions, ensuring a comfortable experience for all.
Expansion Goals
The company's ambition, as articulated by its management, is to establish a major hub in the Tokyo metropolitan area and spread the Niigata brand throughout Kanto. The new store will be conveniently located directly adjacent to Shin-Tsudanuma Station on the Shin Keisei Line, occupying a space previously held by Ito-Yokado, which underscores the strategic location of the new branch.
One of the appealing aspects of the Tsudanuma area is its demographic diversity, where three generations of families coexist, enhancing the area’s community feel. As a growing suburban area, Tsudanuma not only offers a steady stream of local customers but also promises significant weekend traffic that contrasts with urban office zones.
Unique Features
Spanning approximately 100 tsubo (around 330 square meters), this location will be the company's largest direct-run store. The entrance will include a waiting bar and offer a diverse menu that encompasses appetizers alongside sushi and various Japanese dishes to create an inclusive style for all ages. The layout allows for family-friendly conveyor belt seating and a live kitchen counter, with seating arrangements flexible enough to adapt to various customer needs.
In addition, to meet the growing demand for banquet services in the Tsudanuma area, the restaurant plans to implement adaptable group seating that can be reconfigured as needed.
Financial Insights
Though not positioned as a budget conveyor-belt sushi place, with dinner prices expected to range from ¥3,500 to ¥4,000 (approximately $30 to $36), the restaurant will cater to a broad audience. The expected average price for lunch will be around ¥2,000 (about $18) per person, balancing affordability with a commitment to quality sushi and a casual dining atmosphere.
Previous Achievements
Before its plans for this major expansion, Sado Sushi Benkei tested Kanto waters by launching smaller operations in Tokyo and securing a franchise in Urawa, Saitama, which experienced considerable success. Furthermore, they opened another franchise in Ueno Station and have established a reputation with their casual sushi offerings in Kyoto.
The original Sado store in Niigata, buoyed by the registration of Sado Kinzan as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has witnessed record sales, benefitting from increased tourism. The restaurant intends to leverage these successes and establish a strong foothold in the Kanto region through the Tsudanuma location.
