BCEN Expands Nursing Education with New Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Courses

New Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Nursing Review Courses Launching

On October 5, the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) is excited to announce the debut of new pediatric emergency nursing and trauma nursing specialty review courses on its award-winning platform, BCEN Learn. This launch coincides with two significant events in the nursing calendar: Emergency Nurses Week, celebrated from October 5 to 11, and Pediatric Nurses Week, taking place from October 6 to 10. To make this introduction even more appealing, anyone purchasing the courses will receive a corresponding practice exam for free during this limited-time offer.

The CPEN (Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse) and TCRN (Trauma Certified Registered Nurse) Review Courses are meticulously designed and managed by the BCEN Learn team. These courses aim to support registered nurses as they prepare for the respective certification exams. In addition to exam readiness, the courses are ideal for nurses wishing to enhance, update, or deepen their specialty knowledge. Furthermore, they offer valuable continuing education credits for certified RNs looking to recertify.

BCEN’s CEO, Janie Schumaker, emphasized the importance of specialized training for pediatric emergency and trauma nurses, affirming that “Pediatric emergency and trauma patients deserve care from nurses who bring specialized knowledge and skills to the bedside.” This launch of new review courses exemplifies BCEN’s dedication to empowering nurses at various professional levels with impactful educational tools and innovative learning experiences.

Comprehensive Learning Opportunities

With a strong focus on a flexible learning approach, both the CPEN and TCRN review courses are tailored considering the various learning styles and preferences of nurses. Here’s a glance at what these courses offer:

  • - Comprehensive Modules: These courses are rooted in the content outline of the CPEN and TCRN exams, ensuring relevant and focused study material.
  • - Flexible Accessibility: Participants can access the courses anytime and on any device, which caters to their individual schedules, whether they prefer short study sessions or extensive learning periods.
  • - Interactive Features: High-quality visuals, engaging interactive elements, and frequent knowledge checks are incorporated throughout to aid in knowledge retention and reinforce learning.
  • - Printable Study Guides: Each course offers a printable study guide which is conducive for note-taking, enhancing the overall learning experience.
  • - Practice Questions: Participants will benefit from 175 practice exam-style questions that prepare them for the certification exams.
  • - Continuing Education Credits: Successful completion of the course provides 21 CE credits, with an added 3 CE credits available through the complimentary practice exam, totaling 24 CE credits.

Schumaker highlighted, “Whether nurses are preparing for the CPEN or TCRN exam, or simply seeking to refresh their knowledge in pediatric or trauma nursing, these self-guided courses will provide the necessary flexibility, depth, and assistance to ensure success.”

Growing Resources for Emergency Nursing

With the rollout of the CPEN and TCRN review courses, BCEN Learn now boasts an impressive suite of resources, including review courses tailored to the three most common certifications held by nurses in emergency departments and trauma centers—the CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse), CPEN, and TCRN—alongside practice exams for five out of BCEN's six certification programs (CEN, CPEN, TCRN, CFRN, and CBRN). Since October, more than 41,000 registered nurses have received the CEN certification, over 5,600 hold CPEN, and more than 8,200 possess TCRN credentials.

This follows BCEN’s earlier success in March 2024 when the CEN Review Course was awarded the prestigious Brandon Hall Group™ Excellence Award® for Best Custom Content, marking the fifth such accolade for the BCEN Learn team.
