Is Foreign Caregivers a Cost or Asset? Keys to Strengthening Facility Management

Is Foreign Caregivers a Cost or Asset?

Human Life Care Co., Ltd., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is conducting a free online seminar titled "Is Foreign Caregivers a Cost or Asset? The Four Keys to Strengthening Facility Management" on two dates: June 10 and June 26, 2025. The seminar will run from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM each day, with all four sessions offering the same content.

Key Points of the Seminar

The seminar focuses on the acceptance of foreign caregivers under the specified skilled worker category, specifically the challenges and strategies associated with training and utilizing these workers effectively. To ensure sustainable management of care facilities, we will present a comprehensive training strategy called the "Four Keys". Participants will also learn about our newly introduced "Foreign Caregiver Activation Program" aimed at boosting the performance of foreign staff.

Following the seminar, there will be a Q&A session, and individual consultations will be available for those interested.

Addressing Social Issues:

Currently, around 46.3% of care facilities have begun accepting foreign caregiver personnel in response to a growing workforce shortage. While many facilities are eager to increase this number, a common concern arises regarding the time and costs associated with training these individuals. Issues such as language barriers and cultural misunderstandings often complicate the integration process, leading to additional costs without guaranteed results. There are cases where valuable new hires leave for other employers, adding frustration to the training efforts.

To tackle these challenges, Human Life Care has rolled out the "Foreign Caregiver Activation Program." This initiative entails assessing the specific situations of foreign staff and crafting tailored learning plans in both Japanese and care techniques. Progress in learning will be monitored and shared to ensure steady skill enhancement. Using smartphones and tablets, staff will receive real-time feedback on their learning and skill evaluations, allowing them to achieve their set goals. During the upcoming seminar, we will delve into how participants can effectively utilize this program to solve practical challenges.

Since embarking on our caregiving journey in 1999, Human Life Care has expanded its home care and facility care services nationwide. In 2019, we welcomed technical interns and began specific skill registration support in September 2020. We have assisted over 550 foreign caregivers in their training and employment, supporting more than 200 other care facilities. Our active commitment to hiring foreign caregivers has resulted in 89 individuals currently employed in our facilities as of December 2024, focusing on nurturing talent that can shape the future of the caregiving industry.

By enhancing the acceptance of foreign caregivers, we aim to address the overarching issue of workforce shortages affecting the caregiving sector.
