New Perspective Partners with LifeLoop to Enhance Senior Living Resident Engagement and Lengthen Stay

Innovation in Senior Living: A New Era through Data

The senior living sector is undergoing transformative changes, driven by technology and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing resident experiences. A groundbreaking study conducted by New Perspective, a prominent senior living provider across eight U.S. states, alongside LifeLoop, a leading engagement technology provider, has unveiled remarkable findings that could redefine success metrics within this industry.

In a comprehensive 15-month research collaboration, New Perspective and LifeLoop have succeeded in quantifying the impact of resident experience technology on length of stay (LOS) for senior living residents. This study represents the first of its kind to establish a clear benchmark for measuring one of the industry's key performance indicators, the median LOS. The findings revealed a stunning 172-day increase in the average time residents spent in communities that effectively integrated the LifeLoop platform into their operations.

The necessity for technology integration in senior living has been highlighted by the recent pandemic, which led to a surge in technology investments across the sector. However, many operators are now reporting challenges in demonstrating return on investment (ROI), which remains a significant roadblock to further adoption. Chris Hyatt, Co-CEO of New Perspective, spoke to this dilemma: "While innovation is important, what truly matters is its impact. By embedding LifeLoop into our communities, we set out to enhance engagement and performance, and now we've proven that theory."

The specific study, titled Quantifying the Impact of Resident Experience Technology on Resident Length of Stay in Senior Living, is available for download and provides actionable insights for the industry. The researchers analyzed detailed data on LOS and LifeLoop usage from 28 New Perspective communities while surveying the satisfaction of 76 staff members. Remarkably, all communities utilizing LifeLoop achieved significant gains in LOS, but those with high engagement—where technology was not just an afterthought but a vital part of the culture and daily practice—reported an impressive 139-day increment in LOS over their counterparts.

Dr. Lydia Nguyen, LifeLoop Principal Researcher, stated, "Our findings illustrate a clear association between the use of LifeLoop and increases in LOS. However, the greatest benefits are linked to comprehensive adoption within communities. Achieving a fully integrated technological approach yields the most emphatic results."

The implications of this research extend beyond mere statistics; they offer New Perspective a strategic framework to enhance LOS across their portfolio. Standardizing best practices related to LifeLoop is now seen as a vital contributor to achieving their mission. Brandon Tabbert, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Optimization at New Perspective, emphasized the study's relevance: “This research bridges the gap between our beliefs about what matters and what we can tangibly measure.”

Crucially, this study also sets a precedent for the entire senior living community framework, validating the use of resident engagement technology as a significant strategic investment. According to Tabbert, the findings are not only confirmatory but also actionable. "If we can retain even one more resident because they feel more connected and engaged, that kind of ROI is invaluable."

It's essential to acknowledge how LifeLoop, founded 26 years ago, has evolved to cater to the blossoming needs of senior living communities. By harnessing technology that enriches the resident experience through engaging content, facilitating staff support, and fostering connections among families, LifeLoop has become an indispensable partner for over 550,000 residents and staff across more than 4,700 communities in North America.

As this research highlights, embracing engagement technology is no longer an optional add-on but a crucial strategy for enhancing the quality of life for residents in senior living environments. With actionable insights now at hand, the future looks promising for organizations willing to commit to holistic resident engagement strategies, ensuring that senior living communities not only thrive but also become a place where seniors can truly ‘Live Life on Purpose®.’
