IREX Appoints Aleksander Dardeli as New President and CEO

On September 1, 2025, Aleksander (Aleks) Dardeli is set to take on his new role as President and CEO of IREX, following his appointment by the organization's board. He brings a wealth of experience and a bold vision for future leadership to the table. This announcement marks a significant moment for IREX as it embarks on a new chapter under Dardeli's guidance.

Dardeli returns to IREX after serving as the Chief Operating Officer for Save the Children, where he focused on strategy, planning, and enhancing organizational performance. Prior to that, he held the role of Executive Vice President at IREX, leading efforts that expanded the organization’s global footprint, fostered innovation, and improved management systems. His performance during his previous tenure is a strong indicator of the potential for IREX under his leadership.

David A. Gross, Chairman of the IREX Board, expressed his enthusiasm about Dardeli’s return, stating, “We are excited to welcome Aleks back to IREX. His experience and perspective are well-suited to guide the organization through a changing landscape. Aleks has a knack for building strong partnerships and managing complexity, and we are confident in his ability to propel IREX forward.”

Kate Thompson, Interim CEO, added, “Aleks' return injects new energy into an organization with strong programs and a team of exceptionally talented professionals. We look forward to the next chapter under his leadership.”

With over 25 years in international development, Dardeli has held leadership positions at various organizations, including IBI International and the East-West Management Institute. His focus has been on education, leadership, and enhancing both private and public sector institutions across different countries, including the United States and post-conflict regions. His role in implementing a significant initiative in Kosovo aimed at preparing government institutions for independence illustrates his extensive expertise and commitment.

A former Fulbright scholar, Dardeli graduated with honors from the University of Tirana and holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University, as well as a Juris Doctor from the Catholic University of America.

In his own words, Dardeli stated, “IREX has a long tradition of transforming education systems, convening people to solve problems, and empowering leaders across various sectors. I’m eager to work with our team, board, and supporters worldwide to create new opportunities, develop innovative solutions, and ultimately achieve sustainable outcomes for the communities we serve.”
