Octillion Power Systems Expands EV Battery Manufacturing in India



Octillion Power Systems, a leading electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer, has inaugurated its third manufacturing plant in India, located in Halol, Gujarat. This newly constructed facility covers over 13,000 square meters and is set to produce more than 3 GWh of battery capacity annually.

The establishment of this plant marks a significant milestone in Octillion's effort to bolster India's electric mobility supply chain, which serves various segments including passenger cars, light commercial vehicles (LCVs), and buses. With the plant becoming fully operational in under eight months, Octillion is reinforcing its position as a critical player in India's transition towards electrification.

The launch of this plant coincides with a rapid upsurge in the Indian EV market. Recent data from JMK Research reveals that EV sales surged by 43% year-over-year in the first half of 2026, surpassing 1.54 million units with a notable penetration rate exceeding 11%. Especially, electric passenger vehicles experienced remarkable growth, witnessing an 83% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the growth of electric buses kept pace, supported by initiatives such as the PM E-Bus Sewa program, which saw the delivery of over 4,200 e-buses by June 2026.

Meeting Local and Global Demand



With enhanced production capabilities, the Gujarat plant aims to manufacture over 48,000 battery systems each year, contributing to a total production capacity of approximately 9 GWh across its facilities in India. This output is crucial as it supports the increasing electrification movement in India, fulfilling the demand for sustainable transportation solutions across multiple vehicle categories.

Strengthening the Local Supply Chain



However, building manufacturing capacity is only part of the solution. India continues to rely heavily on imported materials for battery production, a fact underscored by reports from the International Institute for Sustainable Development. To address this dependency, the Indian government is prioritizing local production of critical minerals. The National Critical Minerals Mission is paving the way for domestic exploration and processing, aiming to strengthen the local supply chain for battery-grade materials.

Octillion’s approach integrates advanced production processes, thermal modeling, and comprehensive battery management systems directly into the local supply infrastructure, thereby reducing lead times and improving customer responsiveness.
