WeRide Achieves Remarkable Growth in Second Quarter of 2025 with Major Gains in Robotaxi Revenue
WeRide Reports Impressive Q2 2025 Results
WeRide, a prominent figure in autonomous driving technology, revealed its financial performance for the second quarter of 2025 on July 31, showing remarkable strides in revenue and robotaxi operations. The company, traded under Nasdaq as WRD, recorded a quarterly revenue of US$17.8 million, representing a 60.8% increase compared to the previous year's quarter. The rapid growth in revenue illustrates the company’s expanding operations and the accelerating momentum of its commercialization efforts.
Record-Breaking Robotaxi Revenue
A significant highlight from the report was the 836.7% year-over-year surge in robotaxi revenue, which reached US$6.4 million for the quarter, marking the highest revenue ever reported for the robotaxi sector since WeRide’s inception. This impressive performance accounted for 36.1% of WeRide's total revenue for the quarter, indicating a substantial increase in the concentration of robotaxi income, the highest since 2021. Additionally, the gross profit saw an encouraging increase of 40.6% from the previous year, underscoring the firm’s financial strength.
Strong Global Commercialization Efforts
Abu Dhabi Success
In its ongoing efforts to expand autonomously, WeRide’s robotaxi fleet in Abu Dhabi has tripled since December 2024, marking significant advances in regional commercialization. The fleet now covers crucial areas, including Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands, with plans to broaden its footprint to Khalifa City and Masdar City this year. These expansions aim to double the ride volume, reflecting the company's commitment to delivering safe and reliable autonomous transportation. Notably, WeRide has exceeded 2,200 days of safe robotaxi operation, establishing a new standard for safety in the industry.
Expanding Presence in Dubai and Riyadh
The company’s initiatives also included signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Uber and the Roads and Transport Authority to commence pilot robotaxi operations in 2025 in Dubai, with a full commercial rollout planned for 2026. In Riyadh, WeRide achieved an important milestone by receiving the first autonomous driving permit in Saudi Arabia, allowing it to test robotaxis in collaboration with Uber and Ai Driver.
Operations in Shanghai
In Shanghai, WeRide launched the new robotaxi CER in partnership with Chery Group. This collaboration has enabled the company to conduct regulation-compliant L4 robotaxi ride-hailing services in Pudong while showcasing its developed Autonomous Vehicle (AV) technologies at WAIC 2025.
Broader Autonomous Mobility Solutions
WeRide is not limited to robotaxis; it has also ventured into other autonomous vehicle sectors, notably launching fully driverless robobus operations in Singapore and deploying robobuses in various locations across Saudi Arabia and France for events like the Roland-Garros tennis tournament. Moreover, the company has begun inaugural testing of robovans in Guangzhou, China.
Technological Advancements
WeRide has taken notable strides on the technology front too, introducing the HPC 3.0 high-performance computing platform in partnership with Lenovo and powered by NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Thor chips. The robotaxi GXR stands out as the first mass-produced Level 4 AV built with these advanced chips, promising to significantly reduce costs associated with autonomous driving technology while enhancing performance.
