Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) has shared its sales performance for the third quarter of 2026, revealing that it sold a total of 18,543 vehicles. This result marks a continued strength in its SUV lineup, which has significantly contributed to the brand's resilience in the market, especially in the context of the planned discontinuation of its smaller models, the Mirage and Mirage G4.
In the SUV segment, total sales saw an impressive rise of nearly 10% during this quarter. The Outlander led this charge with Q3 sales of 9,311 vehicles, representing a substantial growth of 27.1% compared to the same period last year. The Outlander Sport also exhibited remarkable performance, achieving 5,902 sales, which is a staggering 91.6% increase year-over-year. Notably, year-to-date sales for the Outlander Sport have surged over 76%. The Eclipse Cross has been part of this positive trend as well, marking a 14.5% increase year-to-date, bringing its total sales to 14,135 vehicles.
However, the overall sales figures for MMNA experienced a decrease of 5.6% in Q3 2026 when juxtaposed against the previous year's sales. This decline primarily stems from the gradual phase-out of Mirage and Mirage G4, which accounted for more than 14% of MMNA's sales in Q3 2025. Nonetheless, Mitsubishi's SUV lineup has effectively compensated for over 60% of the sales volume previously associated with Mirage products. The Outlander has benefitted from new offerings, introducing a more budget-friendly LE trim alongside an eye-catching Black Edition. The Outlander Sport's growth has been further bolstered by the enhanced availability of its entry-level S trim and the recent reintroduction of the 2WD variant.
Through the introduction of three SUVs starting under the $30,000 MSRP mark, Mitsubishi continues to provide strong value propositions in the competitive automotive landscape. Customers also benefit from the company's robust support plan, featuring 'America's Best-Backed Vehicles', which encompasses a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, five-year unlimited-mile roadside assistance, and two years or 30,000 miles of maintenance included.
Looking forward, MMNA remains committed to advancing its comprehensive product renewal strategy under the Momentum 2030 business plan. This next phase will include the updated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid as well as the debut of a brand new model, the Eclipse Sportback EV—Mitsubishi’s first fully electric vehicle since the i-MiEV. Additionally, they are set to launch a rugged off-road variant of the Outlander in early 2027.
In related news, the Green Car Journal has designated the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback as the 2027 Green SUV of the Year. This accolade highlights the vehicle's exceptional performance in environmental sustainability while still offering style and versatility. Mitsubishi has enjoyed recognition in this space with previous awards, with the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid receiving the Family Green Car of the Year in 2019 and securing top honors from 2023 to 2026.
MMNA's strategic initiatives also include an expansion of their dealership network and the establishment of the first U.S. Gallery dealership in the greater Nashville area. This modern retail concept aims to bring the brand closer to customers located in bustling shopping districts. This grand opening stands as a significant milestone in the execution of the Momentum 2030 plan, which not only emphasizes product innovation but also seeks to modernize retail experiences.
Additionally, MMNA is actively expanding its distribution network across the U.S., evidenced by a collaborative logistics venture with AMPORTS and Port Freeport in Texas. This partnership will enhance the efficiency of new vehicle deliveries, ensuring that dealer partners in critical Gulf and Midwest regions receive products more swiftly and cost-effectively.
