Strengthening Tourism and Economic Ties: Serbia and North Macedonia Ahead of EXPO 2027 Belgrade

Strengthening Tourism and Economic Ties Between Serbia and North Macedonia

As EXPO 2027 approaches, a significant endeavor is underway to bolster the tourism and economic ties between Serbia and North Macedonia. The event, aptly titled 'Visit Serbia B2B Networking,' is set to take place at the Public Room in Skopje on October 8, 2026. This initiative brings together tourism professionals and business representatives from both countries to explore fresh avenues for collaboration and growth.

The collaboration aligns with Serbia's international tour, highlighting the vast potential for tourism and business partnerships in the lead-up to EXPO 2027, which will officially kick off on May 15, 2027. The event aims to foster the development of new tourism offerings and create sustainable partnerships that can positively impact both nations long after the expo concludes.

North Macedonia will make its presence known at the upcoming expo with its very own pavilion, titled 'All Rhythms of the Sun.' This pavilion is more than just a display of the beautiful country—it will showcase North Macedonia’s rich culture through music, gastronomy, wine, hospitality, nature, tourism, culture, and the arts.

According to Danilo Jerinić, the CEO of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, the relationship between Serbia and North Macedonia goes beyond mere geographical proximity. He commented that the expo provides an exceptional platform to bring together their tourism sectors and business communities, paving the way for new partnerships and turning regional connections into lasting economic opportunities.

Recent statistics underscore the growing interaction between the two nations. In 2025, bilateral trade between Serbia and North Macedonia reached an impressive 1.5 billion euros, signaling a robust economic relationship. The influx of tourists from North Macedonia to Serbia has also seen a promising surge, with 82,047 arrivals recorded from January to July 2026 alone, marking a notable 22% increase compared to the previous year.

The 'Visit Serbia B2B Networking' event is a clear indication of the commitment both countries have towards nurturing their tourism and business landscapes. It is a prime opportunity for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and tourism operators to engage with potential partners and explore collaborative prospects that will enhance the region’s appeal as a travel destination.

The EXPO 2027 Belgrade, which will last from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme 'Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All,' is expected to host more than 140 participating countries, further elevating the significance of this cooperative endeavor between Serbia and North Macedonia.

In conclusion, as Serbia and North Macedonia prepare for this landmark event, the strengthening of their ties could result in a dynamic exchange of culture, business, and tourism that benefits both nations for years to come. The upcoming expo stands as a testament to their shared vision and mutual commitment towards a prosperous collaborative future in the Balkans.
