Southwestern Electric Cooperative and Landis+Gyr's New Partnership

On January 14, 2025, Southwestern Electric Cooperative (SWECI) announced a strategic partnership with Landis+Gyr (SIX LAND) to implement a cutting-edge grid intelligence platform. This initiative aims to bolster energy reliability while enhancing efficiency for the utility and its members by utilizing advanced metering technology.

Introducing the Revelo Platform

At the heart of this partnership is the Revelo grid sensing meter, which enables SWECI to access a comprehensive suite of software applications. These applications leverage high-resolution grid data, allowing for real-time monitoring of load disaggregation, voltage management, outage management, and overall situational awareness. As Bobby Williams, CEO of SWECI, pointed out, this technology will significantly improve their energy supply management and demand forecasting capabilities.

“As an independent cooperative, we're responsible for managing energy supply, reliability, and costs for members. We needed better information across our system to design demand management programs that work for customers,” said Williams.

The Revelo platform facilitates better grid-edge connectivity and opens doors for increased energy engagement opportunities for SWECI members, including the use of smart thermostats and water heating solutions.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency

In addition to better managing energy supply, SWECI plans to utilize the Revelo platform for distribution automation and monitoring the health of distribution assets. With the cooperative supplying 8 megawatts of solar energy, they are keen on integrating these systems with their Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) to facilitate two-way power flows. This paves the way for a more responsive and resilient energy delivery system, aligning with modern energy demands.

David Chris, Senior Director of Distribution Sales for Landis+Gyr, added that utilities like SWECI are key players in advancing distribution planning and management. The real-time data from the Revelo platform is pivotal for maintaining reliable and affordable electricity as new energy resources are deployed.

Future-Proofing Energy Management

The Revelo platform uniquely supports various next-generation Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) applications. These capabilities aim to provide utilities with the flexibility necessary for efficient grid management, addressing transportation electrification, managing distributed energy resources, and overseeing circuit-level capacity. Currently, over 5 million Revelo sensing meters are under contract and progressively being rolled out across North America, emphasizing the growing importance of intelligent energy solutions.
