Exploring Contemporary Art: APMA Chapter Five Showcases Global Talents

The Amorepacific Museum of Art, led by Director Seungchang Jeon, is excited to announce its latest exhibition, "APMA, CHAPTER FIVE – FROM THE APMA COLLECTION," running from April 1 to August 2, 2026. This special showcase features an impressive array of contemporary artworks, presenting a diverse selection of approximately 80 pieces by both Korean and international artists.

Among the renowned artists in this exhibition are Kiki Smith, known for her explorations of life and death, and the intricate relationships between femininity, myth, and nature. Rose Wylie brings her unique reinterpretation of everyday life through bold and playful visual language, while Carol Bove utilizes industrial materials to expand the definitions of sculpture. Gala Porras-Kim’s innovative works encourage viewers to consider the historical layers and narratives of everyday objects.

The exhibition does not shy away from featuring vital figures in Korean contemporary art either. Nam June Paik, a pioneer in video art, has a substantial presence with his monumental installation "Kon-Tiki," which asserts video art as its own genre. Additionally, "TV Vertical Flower," a significant work not displayed in a museum in over 20 years, marks a highlight in this exhibition. Haegue Yang contributes a new installation titled "Stacked Corners – Ventilated Square of Orange and Blue," reflecting her deep conceptual artistic practice rooted in both Berlin and Seoul. Additionally, the exhibition presents the seminal work of Lee Bul, "The Secret Sharer," a poignant critique of modern civilization’s anxieties.

Overall, this exhibition encapsulates the vast visual languages that define contemporary art, showcasing how cultural and historical contexts shape artistic expression. The artworks reflect diverse stylistic approaches and thematic content, offering an examination of the evolution of contemporary art, particularly within the framework of Korean art from Dansaekhwa to its present-day interpretations.

In a bid to further engage audiences, the Amorepacific Museum of Art will host a series of events and programs, including guided tours led by curators, tailored to deepen the understanding and appreciation of the exhibited works. For art enthusiasts eager to explore the depths of this rich collection, the museum will also provide an advanced program for a more in-depth exploration of the themes presented in the exhibition.

The exhibition opens daily from 10 AM to 6 PM and is closed on Mondays. The venue is conveniently located at 100, Hangang-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Admission details and additional information can be accessed via the APMA website at http://apma.amorepacific.com.
