CIEE Celebrates 80 Years with Fundraising Campaign to Enhance Study Abroad Access

CIEE's 80th Anniversary Fund for Global Engagement

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) has launched a remarkable initiative to commemorate its 80-year journey of promoting international education. With the unveiling of the 80th Anniversary Fund for Global Engagement, the organization aims to raise $10 million to help expand access for students wishing to study abroad. This innovative campaign serves a dual purpose; it is not only a celebration of CIEE's rich history but also a powerful call to action to remove financial barriers faced by aspiring globetrotters.

Since its inception in 1947, CIEE has worked tirelessly to facilitate cultural exchange and understanding amongst diverse nations. In a world increasingly challenged by cultural misunderstandings and tensions, the role of international education is crucial. CIEE has positioned itself as a leader in promoting peace and intercultural dialogue, having provided thousands of students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures.

Objectives of the Fund

The new fund aims to raise $5 million, which, when combined with a matching initiative for donations of $2,500 or more, has the potential to generate up to $10 million. This financial boost will support at least 1,000 scholarships for high school and college students to study abroad or engage in global internships. By enhancing the financial accessibility of such transformative experiences, CIEE will equip more students with the skills and knowledge required to become informed global citizens.

Currently, a staggering 98% of U.S. high school students and 94% of college students remain unengaged in global education programs annually. This initiative not only seeks to change those sobering statistics but aims to create a new generation of globally-minded adults who can contribute to a more peaceful and interconnected world.

Making a Difference

CIEE's President and CEO, James P. Pellow, Ed.D., expressed the organization’s commitment to fostering inclusivity in global education. "Our goal is to ensure that any student, regardless of their economic background, has the opportunity for a meaningful study abroad experience. In today's geopolitical climate, these experiences are more vital than ever. They promote understanding and collaboration amongst diverse cultures."

The 80th Anniversary Fund isn't just about financial support; it’s about investing in the future leaders of our world. By breaking down economic barriers, CIEE intends to cultivate global engagement and encourage a culture of learning that transcends borders.
