Background of the Event

With advancements in technology, the opportunities for individuals with severe physical disabilities to participate in society have broadened. Tools such as eye-tracking devices and various switches are helping to enable workplace participation. However, there are still limited opportunities for personalized support in selecting and using these assisted devices, primarily provided by occupational therapists. This is where Inclusive Technology comes into play.

In the past, Florence and TechnoTool have held events like the Para eSports Fest in 2024 and 2025, introducing children to commercially available games to make technology more approachable for them.

The feedback from previous participants was overwhelmingly positive. A staggering 88.9% of children expressed that they felt they could do more with technology after attending, and 100% stated they would like to use it at home. Their caregivers also noted the potential for children’s capabilities to expand.

However, many families also voiced a desire to explore more than just gaming, expressing interests in activities such as drawing, creating art, and even playing music. In response to these desires, the framework for experiences at this year’s festival has been broadened.

Key Features of the Inclusive Tech Festival 2026

1. Doubling Participation Opportunities: The festival will accommodate 60 families, a significant increase from last year. More families have expressed a strong desire for technological engagement for children with disabilities.

2. From Games to Daily Living: The scope of experiences has expanded beyond gaming. Activities will include drawing on tablets, playing musical instruments, utilizing 3D printers for creation, and even managing household devices—real-world applications of technology in daily life.

3. Inclusion of Siblings: Sibling attendees will not just play an accompanying role; they will engage in activities as participants. The event will facilitate this by assigning gaming functions to special switches designed for cooperation in play, empowering children to collaborate in gameplay. Participants can engage in cooperative challenges on a large-screen stage, creating a truly inclusive atmosphere.
