Three Kia Models Shine in 2026 U.S. News Awards
Kia has made a remarkable mark in the automotive sector once again, with three of its models being awarded in the prestigious 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hybrid and Electric Cars Awards. The models that stood out include the
2027 Telluride HEV, named the best mid-size hybrid SUV, the
2026 Niro HEV, recognized as the best subcompact hybrid SUV, and the
2026 Sportage PHEV, which took the top spot in the compact plug-in hybrid SUV category. This year’s awards reaffirm Kia's dedication to producing high-quality electrified vehicles that cater to various needs and lifestyles.
Eric Watson, the Vice President of Sales Operations at Kia America, expressed pride in these achievements, stating, "These victories reflect Kia's ongoing commitment to excellence, providing a variety of high-quality electrified vehicles to meet diverse consumer needs. We are particularly excited to see the all-new Telluride HEV debut with such strong recognition, joining the ranks of the Niro and Sportage."
The award winners were selected after a thorough evaluation process across three highly competitive categories. Editors at U.S. News & World Report reviewed
138 vehicles spanning
19 categories, determining the winners based on composite scores acquired through various assessments, including overall vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and energy consumption ratings from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Alex Kwanten, the Automotive Editor at U.S. News & World Report, noted, "The Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, the Telluride Hybrid, and especially the Niro stand out for their fuel efficiency; however, they are also exceptional vehicles in all aspects. Each is spacious, stylish, well-equipped, practical for everyday use, and relatively affordable."
The all-new
2027 Telluride HEV marks a significant evolution in Kia's hybrid offerings. For the first time, it introduces a hybrid powertrain, specifically designed and equipped for the American market. The second-generation Telluride showcases an imposing stance with a more refined execution, reinforcing the model's established presence. The hybrid powertrain integrates a
2.5-liter turbocharged engine with a
1.65 kWh lithium-ion battery and dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of
329 horsepower and
339 lb-ft of torque. The EPA-rated fuel economy stands at an estimated
35 mpg combined, with a remarkable total range of up to
637 miles.
In summary, Kia America continues to lead in automotive quality surveys and recognizes the importance of sustainability within the industry. As reported by TIME in 2025, Kia was named one of the most sustainable companies in the world. Furthermore, as the official automotive partner of the NBA and WNBA, Kia is firmly positioned in the American market, offering a diverse range of gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles through nearly
800 dealerships across the U.S.
