Community Spirit Shines Bright at Elderwerks Aging Better Expo 2025

On August 13, 2025, Elderwerks proudly hosted its 12th annual Aging Better Expo at Stonegate Banquets in Hoffman Estates, drawing an impressive crowd of over 575 in-person attendees alongside more than 60 virtual participants. This significant event aimed to unite older adults, caregivers, and professionals, offering vital resources and educational sessions essential for navigating the aging experience.

The Expo was a bustling hub, featuring over 220 professionals and 90 senior resource booths. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in 12 educational classes specifically designed to equip them with the knowledge needed to age gracefully and actively. From health and wellness to financial planning and caregiving, the event covered a wide spectrum of topics crucial for the senior community and their supporters.

This year’s theme revolved around fun, friendship, and knowledge, emphasizing the importance of community in enhancing the aging process. Attendees were encouraged to connect with local experts, probe valuable resources, and engage in lively discussions during the interactive sessions. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, making the Expo much more than just an educational fair; it was a celebration of life and the art of aging well.

Behind the success of this event lay the unwavering dedication of more than 35 volunteers who ensured every detail was attended to, from welcoming guests to assisting vendors. Volunteer Carol Pfister, who has participated in the Expo for four consecutive years, expressed her passion for Elderwerks' programs. “I love everything about Elderwerks—from 'Stepping Out to Fitness' to the classes and the Aging Better Expo. The wealth of information on all things aging is simply exceptional,” Pfister remarked.

Guests explored a variety of booths that showcased services from healthcare and senior living to financial advisement and in-home assistance. Many attendees took to heart the interactive nature of the Expo, praising their ability to directly interact with professionals and seek tailored guidance that fits their unique situations. Diane Czubek and Marianne Loughman, two engaged attendees, shared their positive experiences. “The classes and resources are excellent—they help us plan for the future and give us tools to support our friends and family with aging resources,” Czubek noted. “This was the most wonderful experience—full of unexpected information. I gained knowledge that will help me in the future. Elderwerks is amazing,” Loughman added, emphasizing the event's value.

The strong turnout and the enthusiastic feedback received showcase the profound impact that Elderwerks continues to have on the lives of older adults and their caregivers. Elderwerks Executive Director, Deana Liss, expressed her commitment to the community, stating, “Elderwerks is dedicated to helping older adults, caregivers, and professionals find the resources they need to live their best lives. The Aging Better Expo is one way we bring the community together to share knowledge, provide support, and celebrate the journey of aging.”
