The study, aptly titled "Bilateral Large-Scale Cardiovascular Monitoring Using Wearable Rings," analyzed a vast dataset consisting of
97,559 valid PPG (photoplethysmography) samples from
1,810 participants. It also included
7,478 matched blood pressure measurements. The findings revealed that combining synchronized PPG signals from both hands greatly enhances heart rate estimations, significantly reducing average absolute error for heart rate measurements.
- - The average error decreased from 10.65 bpm to 3.21 bpm, further improving to 2.59 bpm when signal differences remained within defined thresholds.
While the improvements in blood pressure estimation were modest—showing a reduction from
13.81 mmHg systolic error to
12.36 mmHg and diastolic error from
9.27 mmHg to
8.21 mmHg—the study emphasizes the critical role of sensor placement and signal consistency in deriving accurate health metrics.
