CRYOVAC® Brand Celebrates 85 Years of Excellence
Sealed Air Corporation recently kicked off a yearlong celebration to mark the 85th anniversary of its renowned CRYOVAC® brand food packaging. This momentous occasion reflects a rich legacy characterized by innovation, superior performance, and a steadfast commitment to customer service and collaboration.
The CRYOVAC® brand has been a pioneer since its inception in 1941, fundamentally changing the meat packaging industry through technological advances that have become standard practice in various sectors, including retail and food service operations. Originally derived from the term "cryogenic vacuum," the brand's name directly refers to the revolutionary method of vacuum-sealing food followed by the application of cold air to shrink the packaging. This technique significantly improved the presentation and preservation of fresh meats, thus increasing accessibility to a wider consumer base.
Today, CRYOVAC® offers a diverse portfolio of packaging solutions, which encompasses shrink bags, vacuum skin packaging, and rollstock films. Additionally, their state-of-the-art equipment, such as rotary vacuum chamber systems and vertical form-fill-seal systems, continues to enhance the efficacy and reliability of food packaging.
Dustin Semach, the President and CEO of Sealed Air, emphasized the importance of the brand's people, stating, "The legacy and future of CRYOVAC® is centered on the people who make it possible — our employees, customers, and partners. Together, we will continue to advance food packaging solutions that embody the best of our materials, equipment, and service, showcasing the pride of the CRYOVAC® brand."
Reflecting on significant milestones over the past 85 years, CRYOVAC® has pioneered technologies that not only expanded access to proteins but also reshaped the packaging of liquid food products. Their commitment to innovation has fundamentally changed how processors and retailers operate within the food industry. Moreover, the brand has built one of the most experienced technical service teams in the field, boasting an impressive average tenure of 11 years specializing in CRYOVAC® equipment.
To date, more than 4,000 rotary vacuum chamber systems have been installed, reinforcing CRYOVAC's legacy of excellence in the food packaging domain. Russell Grissett, the Global Food President of Sealed Air, noted, "CRYOVAC® has a long-standing reputation for hands-on collaboration with customers and fostering lasting relationships. We look forward to preserving this tradition of partnership and innovation as we continue to pioneer the future of food packaging together."
The anniversary celebrations formally commenced at the upcoming 2026 International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE), which runs from January 27-29 in Atlanta, Georgia. Attendees are invited to visit booth C34147, where they can learn more about CRYOVAC®'s continued advancements and view a timeline showcasing the brand's storied achievements over the years.
