Understanding Emotional Intelligence to Navigate Personal Patterns for Career Growth

Navigating Your Career Through Emotional Intelligence

In today’s rapidly changing world, individuals must proactively shape their careers. The Protean Career Association, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, recently released a seminar video titled "Understanding Emotional Intelligence to Navigate Personal Patterns and Escape Repeated Mistakes." This enlightening seminar supports the organization's mission to enhance relationships between organizations and individuals and to assist in active career development. The seminar was held during the Protean Forum 2025, one of Japan's largest career events, which saw participation from over 2000 attendees, featuring experts who addressed various organizational and personal challenges.

The seminar is part of a series of 15 sessions that were presented at the forum, all of which will be made available for free to the public starting October 16, 2025. The first session emphasizes understanding behavior patterns through the lens of emotional intelligence (EQ). Many middle-aged professionals struggle with repetitive behavior patterns that hinder their progress; this seminar aims to shed light on those issues to help attendees rediscover their strengths and encourage proactive career development.

Why Emotional Intelligence Matters

In a climate of uncertainty, developing a strong emotional intelligence can be critical for both personal and organizational growth. Recent studies conducted by the Protean Career Association reveal that over 90% of respondents viewed generative AI positively and expressed optimism regarding new career support models. As such, individuals must learn to interact with the changes brought about by AI and society at large, shaping their careers accordingly.

This first session invites participants to use specific tools to articulate their emotions and thoughts, recognizing when they are operating in 'autopilot mode.' By raising awareness of these unconscious behaviors, attendees can better navigate their own personal patterns, leading to enriched career choices.

Meet the Speakers

The session will be led by Katsuhiro Abiko, an expert in EQ coaching and TOC instruction, along with other members from the Protean Association's Mid-Lab team: Hiromi Ebihara, Tomoko Okuda, Daisuke Sato, and Akihiko Tachibana. The Mid-Lab is an organization within the association focused on providing opportunities for middle-aged professionals to support each other in discovering their authentic selves.

Upcoming Events

In addition to the seminar, the Protean Career Association will host an online event called the "Career Talk Tour" on November 8 and 22. This interactive event will use board games to foster dialogue, specifically targeting those in their 30s to 50s who are contemplating their “authentic career.” For those interested, registration is available online.

Both the seminar and upcoming events reflect the association's commitment to providing valuable resources for career development amidst changing societal landscapes.
