Kroger Health Reaches New Milestone in Prescription Drug Safety Program
Kroger Health, a prominent entity within The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), has made significant strides in promoting prescription drug safety education. Recently, the organization announced that it has reached an impressive milestone—over 250,000 students have successfully completed its drug safety program, known as "Prescription Drug Safety: Know the Truth.” This initiative is part of Kroger Health's ongoing effort to help individuals lead healthier lives by raising awareness around the proper use, storage, and disposal of prescription medications.
The program is made available at no cost to middle and high schools through a strategic partnership with Everfi, a trusted leader in connecting communities with essential life-skills education. Since 2018, Kroger Health has worked diligently with Everfi to design a curriculum that empowers young people to make informed decisions, thus aiming to minimize the misuse of prescription medications among young adults.
The results have been remarkable—the number of students completing the program has surged from approximately 700 in the academic year 2017-2018 to nearly 65,000 in the 2024-2025 academic year alone. Feedback from participants indicates that they feel better prepared to support peers impacted by prescription drug misuse, with pre- and post-assessment scores demonstrating a clear increase in knowledge and awareness.
Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: "By equipping students with the knowledge and skills they can use to make better, healthier decisions, we're building stronger, more resilient communities. Kroger Health is proud to play a part in helping young people recognize the warning signs of drug abuse and misuse, ultimately shaping a brighter future for generations to come.”
Ray Martinez, CEO of Everfi, praised Kroger Health's commitment as well, stating, "Kroger Health's dedication to prescription drug safety education demonstrates the powerful impact that's possible when businesses invest in their communities. Reaching 250,000 students is a significant milestone, and we're proud to work with Kroger Health in equipping young people with the critical knowledge they need to make informed decisions about prescription medications.”
