OMAKAI Sushi Expands to Chicago and Beyond with New Locations
OMAKAI Sushi: A New Chapter Begins in Chicago and Beyond
In a significant step towards expanding its brand, OMAKAI, the beloved sushi chain from South Florida, has announced its intention to venture outside of Florida for the first time. With two new locations in Chicago as well as upcoming openings in Orlando and Brickell, OMAKAI is poised to bring its distinctive sushi offerings to a wider audience.
Founded in 2019 by brothers Diego and Pedro Quijada, along with friend Nicolas Sayavedra and Chef Aaron Pate, OMAKAI has quickly built a reputation for serving high-quality, traditional sushi at a price that is approachable for everyone. Their concept is rooted in the Japanese principle of Omotenashi, which emphasizes heartfelt hospitality, where guests are encouraged to trust the chef’s selections.
First Steps in Chicago
The Chicago expansion signifies OMAKAI’s first foray into a major culinary market beyond its home state. The brand will set up its flagship sushi restaurant at 951 W Fulton Market, accompanied by a hand roll bar at 507 N Wells Street in River North. These locations are anticipated to provide a warm and inviting setting, characteristic of OMAKAI’s ethos, allowing diners to savor thoughtfully crafted sushi and hand rolls.
The Fulton Market location will hold up to 66 guests on the first floor and features a basement bar for an intimate dining experience. The hand roll bar, designed to seat 30, offers a more casual setting where patrons can enjoy quick bites alongside expertly prepared hand rolls. Both spots are expected to open their doors by the end of the year, serving lunch, happy hour, and dinner to cater to both casual diners and sushi enthusiasts alike.
In addition, OMAKAI will offer its unique 'Homeakase' sushi boxes, available for takeout and delivery via UberEats, allowing fans to indulge in their delicious meals from the comfort of their homes.
Continued Growth in Florida
While Chicago marks OMAKAI's leap into new territory, the company is not neglecting its roots. OMAKAI has announced plans to broaden its footprint in Florida with new locations in Orlando and Brickell. These openings are set to bolster the brand's presence in the state where it first gained its loyal following. OMAKAI's commitment to providing a welcoming atmosphere and high-quality food continues to resonate with customers, as evidenced by their rapid growth in the region.
Commitment to Quality
At OMAKAI, every dish comes with a commitment to quality—using fresh ingredients, warm rice, and crispy nori. Customers can expect an inviting service experience that emphasizes the joy of dining on sushi made with care. Diego Quijada, the founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the new chapter: "Expanding beyond Florida for the first time is a defining moment for everyone who has been part of the OMAKAI journey. I'm thrilled to share our love for sushi with the Chicago community, known for its appreciation of great food. We can't wait to introduce them to our accessible omakase experience."
The ongoing expansion marks a pivotal moment in OMAKAI's history, as the brand seeks to leave its mark on one of the country’s premier dining landscapes while deepening its connections within Florida.
