Ballard Power Systems and New Flyer Strengthen Partnership with Major Fuel Cell Agreement

A Significant Leap in Zero-Emission Transport



On March 10, 2026, Ballard Power Systems made a noteworthy announcement regarding its commercial agreement with New Flyer, a prominent subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. This deal encompasses the supply of 500 advanced FCmove®-HD+ fuel cell engines, amounting to a remarkable 50 megawatts of power. This represents the most substantial commitment from New Flyer since their collaborative endeavors began over a decade ago.

New Flyer, recognized as a leading provider of sustainable mobility solutions across North America and Europe, will integrate these fuel cell engines into its Xcelsior CHARGE FC™ hydrogen fuel cell buses. Deliveries of these cutting-edge engines are slated to begin in 2026, marking a significant step forward in their efforts to enhance zero-emission transport.

Currently, Ballard-powered fleets boast over 2,200 fuel cell buses operating globally. These buses have collectively traveled an impressive distance of more than 250 million kilometers, achieving a remarkable 98% operational availability without any reported safety incidents. Furthermore, the suite of services offered by Ballard, which includes training, technical support, parts supply, operational monitoring, and digital insights, significantly enhances fleet performance and adds value to their customers.
