Tines Survey Shows Security Teams Thrive Amid Challenges
In the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, Tines, a leader in AI-driven workflows, reveals remarkable data about security teams navigating increased workloads. A recent study published in collaboration with AWS highlighted how these teams are not only adapting to changing demands but also thriving despite them.
The
IDC White Paper titled
Voice of Security 2025 surveyed over 900 security decision-makers across significant regions including the United States, Europe, and Australia. A standout finding was that a substantial 88% of these professionals reported meeting or exceeding their performance goals—an impressive feat given that
60% of security teams consist of fewer than 10 members.
Rising Workloads and AI's Role
The survey paints a picture of resilience, as
72% of teams have taken on more work than the previous year. This increase in responsibilities underscores the vibrant role of AI in contemporary security practices. An overwhelming
98% of leaders endorsed AI adoption, with only a small fraction—5%—believing it might eventually render their roles obsolete. Most leaders agree that integrating AI and automation can help bridge existing silos, particularly between security, IT, and DevOps teams, with 98% and 97% respectively acknowledging the potential benefits.
Despite this enthusiasm, certain apprehensions persist. About
33% of respondents indicated concerns over the time needed to train their teams on AI functions, while
27% highlighted compliance as a significant barrier to successful AI integration. Other challenges included AI hallucinations at
26% and security issues during AI deployment at
25%.
“Challenges in the cybersecurity industry are ever-present and ever-changing,” emphasized Matt Muller, Field CISO at Tines. He noted that as threats become more complex, the integration of AI across workflows becomes imperative, necessitating more flexible approaches to automation.
The Need for Improved Tool Integration
The findings also reflected the general sentiment regarding existing tools. While
one-third of respondents expressed satisfaction with their current tech stacks,
24% struggled with poor tool integration. A notable
35% reported that key functionalities were lacking. It’s clear that having the right tools is only half the battle; ensuring seamless operation among them is crucial in today’s security environment.
Christopher Kissel, a research VP at IDC, remarked on the importance of synchronizing automation efforts between departments to bolster security measures and streamline operations. “Siloed automation can lead to vulnerabilities, especially as less technical staff begin using these tools,” he remarked.
Insights on Job Satisfaction and Work-Life Balance
The report also highlighted some broader trends affecting job satisfaction within security teams. If given additional time through automation or AI,
43% of leaders indicated they would focus more on developing security policies,
42% on training, and
38% on incident response planning. While
83% of security leaders claimed to maintain a healthy work-life balance,
only 72% managed to perform their duties without consistently extending their working hours, indicating a significant sacrifice many are willing to make for their roles.
