Rheem's 2024 Sustainability Progress Report: A Commitment to the Planet
On April 22, 2025, Rheem®, the renowned Atlanta-based manufacturer of water heating and HVAC/R products, unveiled its 2024 Sustainability Progress Report, coinciding with Earth Day. This sixth annual report reflects Rheem's unwavering commitment to sustainability through its initiative,
A Greater Degree of Good™. The report highlights substantial advancements in environmental practices and sets ambitious goals aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Designing Innovative, Sustainable Products
Rheem has set an earth-friendly agenda with its ambitious target for 2025: to introduce an entire suite of HVAC/R and water heating products that will cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% compared to those available in 2019. This commitment has already put Rheem on the path to success, as they have released innovative air and water heat pump products suitable for both residential and commercial applications; some key models have achieved emissions reductions as high as 87%. Senior Vice President Chee Wee Gan emphasizes, "We are committed to innovating with intent, engineering solutions that prioritize performance and sustainability. With 100 years of experience and counting, we take pride in achieving our sustainable product goal with this collection of market-leading, high-efficiency products."
Championing Zero Waste Initiatives
In a significant milestone, Rheem announced that all its manufacturing facilities that participated in the 2019 Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) initiative have successfully achieved ZWTL status. This means that these plants divert over 90% of their nonhazardous solid waste from landfills, incineration, and waste-to-energy operations. Rheem's journey in resource conservation dates back to 1940, showcasing a longstanding emphasis on efficiency in the use of materials, demonstrating that sustainable practices are at the core of their mission.
Rheem's plan also includes steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% across its global manufacturing operations by 2025, contributing significantly to its sustainability narrative.
Training Industry Professionals on Sustainability
Rheem has set an ambitious target to train 250,000 plumbers, contractors, and other industry stakeholders on sustainable practices by 2025. Remarkably, they have already trained over 600,000 professionals, surpassing their initial target. As part of this educational thrust, Rheem established a state-of-the-art
Innovation Learning Center (ILC) in Saudi Arabia, dedicated to sustainable product education for the increasing demand for cooling technology in the region. Globally, Rheem has expanded its educational infrastructure to include 27 ILCs, ensuring that professionals receive hands-on training tailored to their local needs.
As part of Rheem’s broader commitment to environmental stewardship, the company is commemorating its 100th anniversary in 2025, reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainability.
