Miles for Military Welcomes a New Chief Operating Officer
In a significant move towards improving support for active-duty service members,
Miles for Military has appointed
Jacob Cool as their new Chief Operating Officer (COO). This Boston-based non-profit organization, dedicated to flying junior enlisted military personnel home for holidays and critical family moments, believes that Cool's experience and background will be instrumental in driving its mission forward.
Cool comes to Miles for Military with an impressive 23-year career in the Army, offering rich insights into leadership, operations, logistics, and project management. His extensive military experience equips him with a unique understanding of the challenges faced by service members, particularly those at junior ranks, who often struggle to secure funding for travel. This initiative aims to alleviate the burdens of returning home for key events, such as holidays or family gatherings, which are essential to maintaining bonds with loved ones.
Maureen Byrne, the founder of Miles for Military, expressed her enthusiasm regarding Cool's appointment. She stated, "Jacob brings to Miles for Military a first-hand experience of what it is like to serve his country, and the sacrifices all who serve make along the way. We are thrilled at the continued growth of our team as we help more and more young service members get home to see their families and loved ones, especially now during the holidays."
The organization's innovative approach combines travel assistance with volunteerism. Junior enlisted service members can secure a flight home at no cost, provided they volunteer at a charity of their choice in return. This year alone, Miles for Military is flying over 400 service members home, with plans to expand this number in the future. Recently, the organization also partnered with
Wyndham Rewards, enabling members to donate their points to further fund travel costs.
Reflecting on his new role, Cool noted, "I have already observed up close the positive and emotional effect Miles for Military has had on the service men and women we are flying home, and on their loved ones. As a veteran, I understand the need not only of maintaining contact with those we love but the concept of tying service into the process of earning a flight home. I look forward to recreating that positive experience with many more young members of our military."
The idea for Miles for Military originated from Byrne's personal experience as a mother of a Marine. After hearing about the financial difficulties many service members encountered regarding travel expenses during significant times, she was inspired to take action. Since its inception, the organization has remained steadfast in its commitment to serving junior enlisted military personnel, reinforcing community values at its core.
By combining practical support with the ideals of duty, honor, and community, Miles for Military is poised for continued growth under Cool's leadership, ensuring many more service members can experience the critical joy of reconnecting with their families.
Founded in 2021 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Miles for Military continues to stand by its mission of facilitating travel for those who serve the nation, reminding us all of the importance of connection and support.
