Hyundai Motor America has made significant strides in sales performance, reporting its best-ever December sales figures at an impressive total of 78,498 vehicles. This marks a 4% increase from December 2023, showcasing the brand's growing appeal in a competitive automotive market.

Record-Setting Vehicle Models

The December sales boom included notable performances from several environmentally-friendly models. The Santa Fe HEV saw an astounding 87% increase in sales, while the Tucson HEV also surged by 133%. The flagship IONIQ 5 electric vehicle experienced a 41% growth in sales, underscoring Hyundai's commitment to electrification and innovation. In total, hybrid vehicle sales rose by 85%, and overall electric vehicles saw a growth of 12%.

Remarkably, December wasn't just a strong month for units sold; it also set a new retail sales record with 66,159 units sold, a 9% increase compared to the previous year. Retail sales for electric vehicles jumped by 13% year-over-year, while hybrid retail sales experienced a 79% uptick. Collectively, sales for electrified vehicles soared by 50%, reflecting a robust market trend towards hybrid and electric options.

Stellar Quarter Performance

The company also celebrated a record-breaking fourth quarter, with total sales hitting 226,308 units, which is a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The fourth quarter alone saw exceptional performances from the Elantra N, Santa Fe HEV, Tucson HEV, and IONIQ 5, all of which achieved new record sales during this period. Additionally, retail sales for electrified vehicles surged by 64% year-over-year in Q4.

In total for 2024, Hyundai managed overall sales of 836,802 units, marking a 4% increase from the previous year, making it the highest year for total sales in the brand's history. Specifically, retail sales also climbed by 4% for the year, with total retail sales amounting to 742,009 units, marking the fourth consecutive year with record retail numbers.

A Bright Future Ahead

Randy Parker, the newly appointed CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America, expressed confidence in continued growth, stating, "This was an incredible record-breaking year for Hyundai, largely driven by the success of offering consumers a variety of product and powertrain options that fit their needs." He anticipates that this momentum will persist, especially with exciting models like the IONIQ 9 set to hit the market soon. The new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant in Georgia is positioned to ramp up production and further support these sales figures.

Hyundai's achievements have resonated well with consumers, leading to heightened expectations for 2025 and beyond. As the industry shifts towards greenhouse gas reductions and sustainable practices, Hyundai's pioneering initiatives in electric and hybrid segments place it firmly in the spotlight.

Future Innovations and Strategies

Looking ahead, Hyundai is poised to not only maintain this growth but also expand its presence in the automotive landscape. Part of this includes offering new features like free NACS DC EV adapters for current and new EV owners, enhancing the ownership experience for customers. Awards for vehicles like the IONIQ 5 N, recently named CarBuzz's Best EV for 2025, reflect the brand's commitment to quality and innovation.

Furthermore, the IONIQ 5 earned accolades once again as a part of Car and Driver's 10Best Trucks and SUVs List. Such recognition reinforces Hyundai's reputation for producing reliable and high-performing vehicles.

Conclusion

With robust sales results, strategic leadership, and a commitment to sustainability, Hyundai Motor America has laid a strong foundation for continued growth in the coming years. Consumers can anticipate exciting advancements in both vehicle technology and design as the company strives to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving market.
