New England Biolabs Calls for Applications for the 2026 Passion in Science Awards
New England Biolabs (NEB) has officially announced its invitation for applications for the esteemed 2026 Passion in Science Awards. This annual event is dedicated to recognizing and honoring scientists who make meaningful contributions through mentorship, environmental efforts, humanitarian service, and artistic exploration.
Founded in 2014, the Passion in Science Awards were created to acknowledge individuals within the scientific community who are dedicated to positively impacting the world using their expertise. Over the years, this initiative has applauded the efforts of 54 distinguished scientists hailing from various corners of the globe. The Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at NEB, Andy Bertera expressed excitement about reviving this celebration, stating, “The inspiring work and ethos embodied by these individuals are helping to shape the science of tomorrow.”
The Passion in Science Awards are divided into four categories:
1.
The Scientific Mentorship and Advocacy Award™ - This award honors scientists whose fervor for their respective fields motivates them to educate and share their passion within the scientific community.
2.
The Environmental Stewardship Award™ - This commendation recognizes those working diligently to sustain natural resources or reduce waste, whether inside laboratories or in broader environmental contexts.
3.
The Humanitarian Duty Award™ - Intended for scientists employing their research to alleviate the struggles faced by marginalized communities, this award celebrates the transformative power of science.
4.
The Arts and Creativity Award™ - This award highlights scientists exploring innovative intersections between art and science, creatively demonstrating their synergy to the wider public.
As part of the awards process, winners will enjoy an inviting opportunity to travel to NEB’s scenic campus located in Ipswich, MA for an exclusive awards dinner. Alongside this event, they will engage in roundtable discussions and seminars with like-minded individuals, fostering collaboration and inspiration. Each awardee will also be granted a scholarship of $1,000 to support their ongoing work or may choose instead to direct this amount as a donation to a charity of their preference.
The application window for interested candidates opens immediately, with submissions due by May 29, 2026. Winners will be officially announced on July 24, 2026, and will receive notification via email.
