Join the Community-Centric Co-Creation Festival in Uwajima City
On July 18, 2026, Canon Marketing Japan Group's Canon Biz Attenda Inc. will host the "Community-Centric Co-Creation Festival in Uwajima City" in collaboration with Uwajima City, Uwajima Cable Television, and Itsumo Smile Digital Solutions. This event aims to address the pressing issues of declining population and aging communities affecting local transportation systems.
With panel discussions and presentations, the event will highlight two innovative projects: the "Door-to-Door Transportation Promotion Project" set for demonstration in the fall of 2026, and the utilization of self-operated vehicles through proprietary 5G and Wi-Fi 7 technologies for disaster management.
Due to the ongoing challenges posed by declining birth rates, aging populations, and workforce shortages, many municipalities, including Uwajima City, are grappling with issues surrounding transportation coverage. The city is striving to create a sustainable public transport network by repurposing existing resources. This includes redesigning public transport services like buses and taxis collaboratively with citizens, businesses, and local administration to establish new mobility solutions.
Canon BA is set to conduct trials for the door-to-door transport service that allows users to specify their pick-up and drop-off points. They will also operate autonomous vehicles using the new self-operated 5G and Wi-Fi 7 infrastructures developed within the city. This co-creation festival will serve to inform residents about these new public transport services, fostering understanding and community engagement to ensure their successful adoption.
Attendees include government officials, private sector representatives, university professors, and residents, who will join a panel discussion focused on public transport and the use of communication technologies in transportation and disaster response. The panel, comprising individuals from diverse backgrounds, will foster discussions centered on an inclusive city where no one is left behind.
Since signing a comprehensive collaboration agreement with Uwajima City on March 27, 2025, Canon BA has been actively involved in assessing public transport needs through surveys, analysis, and event planning. This upcoming festival aims to elevate awareness of the new public transport services while advocating for regional problem-solving models that significantly contribute to sustainable community development across Japan.
