Sumitomo Forestry's Sustainability Report 2025
On April 30, Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd., led by President Toshirō Mitsukoshi and based in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, launched its "Sustainability Report 2025" on its official website. This report encapsulates the group's diverse efforts aimed at contributing to a sustainable and prosperous society.
The report serves as a comprehensive update for various stakeholders, including investors, detailing the corporation's sustainability activities. It showcases the achievements for fiscal year 2024 against the numerical targets outlined in the long-term vision "Mission TREEING 2030," which highlights nine critical issues. Additionally, it includes initiatives that align with the mid-term management plan "Mission TREEING 2030 Phase 2," effective from 2025 to 2027, with its overall theme focused on reform and realization for leap forward growth.
The mid-term management plan aims to enhance the integration of business strategies with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. To support this, Sumitomo Forestry has established specific numerical targets within its "Sustainability Edition" of the mid-term management plan and is committed to achieving these objectives.
The long-term vision "Mission TREEING 2030" emphasizes the creation of a decarbonized and circular bio-economy while maximizing the value of trees and forests. The report also prioritizes transparent communications regarding biodiversity conservation and nature-positive initiatives, which have garnered significant attention. For the 2024 report, it analyzes the company's dependency and impact on nature, along with the associated risks and opportunities, using the LEAP approach as aligned with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). Furthermore, the report presents comprehensive solutions derived from cross-company scenario analysis influenced by the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
For the 2025 edition, there will be a strengthened disclosure regarding actions addressing nature-related issues. This aims to establish an internal structure that contributes positively to nature while setting and promoting tangible action goals.
