specialized task reserved for a few, but rather an integral part of daily medical duties.
Background Challenges in Clinical Trials
Despite the critical importance of clinical trials in delivering new treatments to cancer patients, several barriers have historically stood in the way of young doctors participating in these essential studies. Many perceive clinical trials as a domain exclusive to specialists, and the complexity of managing research duties alongside daily clinical responsibilities can further discourage involvement. Additionally, existing career structures often do not incentivize younger physicians to engage in trial participation, thus perpetuating a cycle of limited access to these crucial learning opportunities.
Since its inception in 1991, WJOG has steadily expanded its focus from lung cancer to include gastrointestinal and breast cancers, successfully conducting multi-center clinical trials across the country. By August 2025, WJOG had undertaken 42 different trials, engaging 931 members, primarily consisting of physicians across 387 institutions. Furthermore, the organization has prioritized nurturing the next generation of oncologists, operating activities focused on young doctors through specialized groups such as the Respiratory Group (WING), Gastrointestinal Group (FLAG), and Breast Group (BRIGHT).
A New Approach to Training
WJOG's partnership with Antaa reflects a shared vision: to redefine clinical trials as accessible endeavors. Young doctors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in clinical research, reducing the feeling of exclusion often associated with trial participation. The initial offerings through the Antaa Slide platform will include a variety of resources:
- - WJOG Specialty Page Launch: Starting November 4, 2025, users will find a dedicated WJOG page on Antaa Slide, offering insights, knowledge, and experiences related to clinical trials, fostering a supportive community among young medical professionals.
- - Sharing Career Experiences: Physicians will contribute their personal stories and motivations regarding their involvement in clinical trials, framing these experiences in slide formats for broader dissemination and learning. These narratives serve not just as inspiration but as practical guides for others pursuing similar paths in oncology research.
- - Creating a Learning Ecosystem: Antaa and WJOG intend to create a feedback loop within the learning platform, gathering user responses to continuously improve and expand content. This cyclical approach aims to keep the learning materials relevant and practical, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of young physicians.
- - Future Developments: Moving forward, WJOG and Antaa plan to introduce thematic features focused on specific areas such as respiratory, gastrointestinal, and breast cancers. This will ensure that knowledge sharing and support for young doctors progresses across different specialties, ultimately encouraging them to participate in clinical trials more actively.
Looking Ahead
This partnership embodies a commitment to more than just information dissemination—its goal is to co-create solutions through collaboration. WJOG and Antaa are dedicated to fostering an environment where practicing physicians can learn, connect, and grow together, promoting sustained engagement in clinical trials among young doctors and shaping their careers in oncology.
