Unveiling the Glashütte Original Senata Chronograph
Glashütte Original has long been renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship in chronograph manufacturing. Over 80 years ago, the first wristwatch with a built-in chronograph was developed in the town of Glashütte in Saxony, setting new standards in horological technology. This proud legacy continues with the introduction of the new Senata Chronograph model, which carries forward the pioneering spirit of its predecessors, designed to meet the expectations of today's watch enthusiasts.
A New Era of the Senata Chronograph
A Legacy of Innovation
Saxony has established itself as a hub of industrial innovation in Germany, contributing countless achievements to history, from the first steam locomotive to the world's first daily newspaper. This pioneering spirit has been inherited by the small town of Glashütte, where generations of watchmakers have continuously pushed the boundaries of horology.
Around a century ago, Glashütte watchmakers transitioned from pocket watches to wristwatches, developing the UROFA Caliber 59, the first modern wristwatch chronograph in the early 1940s. This groundbreaking design was rooted in rigorous technical principles that surpassed contemporary standards, establishing a new category of high-precision timepieces. The same spirit of innovation is alive in the new Senata Chronograph and its variation, the Senata Chronograph Navigator.
Functionality Meets Aesthetic
The Navigator: Classic Design Reimagined
Both models exhibit a contemporary revival of classic chronograph aesthetics. The Senata Chronograph Navigator draws direct inspiration from 1940s pilot watches, showcasing a dark dial that prioritizes intuitive usability and visibility, even under harsh conditions. Features include luminous Arabic numerals on a matte black dial, with the hour and minute hands finished in Super-LumiNova® and white lacquer for a striking contrast.
Additionally, a prominent crown adorned with a polished “G” logo enhances user experience. Classic mushroom-shaped pushers positioned at 2 and 4 o'clock ensure smooth operation, complemented by an inner tachymetric scale on the bezel that aids in calculating average speeds.
The Classic Elegance of the Senata Chronograph
Like the Navigator, the Senata Chronograph showcases a sleek 41mm stainless steel case with a refined silhouette suggesting a dress watch aesthetic. This design pays tribute to historical observation watches manufactured in Glashütte from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, renowned for their durability and precision, predominantly used for navigation.
The silver-white grain-finished dial highlights applied Roman numerals crafted from solid gold, coated in blue. Blue-steeled hands provide a cohesive look, with a perfectly symmetrical layout for the 30-minute counter and small seconds for optimal visibility. The date display at 6 o'clock features the brand's iconic Panorama Date, elegantly framed in white gold, reinforcing the model's sophisticated appeal.
Inside the Timepieces: The Caliber 37-24
Both models are powered by the self-winding Caliber 37-24, designed from the outset as a modern integrated chronograph movement, slimmer and flatter than its predecessors. Despite its compact structure measuring 34.2 mm in diameter and just 8 mm thick, it incorporates all essential chronograph functionalities, including the center chronograph seconds hand, 30-minute counter, small seconds display, and the signature Panorama Date.
The flyback function allows for instantaneous stopping, resetting, and restarting of the chronograph with a single push of a button for seamless time measurement. With a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of up to 70 hours, the use of silicon hairsprings enhances its resistance to magnetic fields and temperature changes. The precision is ensured by gold regulation screws positioned on the balance rim, paired with the Glashütte Original's signature swan-neck regulation system.
Exquisite Finishing and Versatility
Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can admire the meticulous finishing of the automatic movement, featuring polished steel components, blued screws, and a distinctive ¾ plate with Glashütte ribbing. Each watch also boasts a 21K gold skeleton rotor, embellished with the polished “G” logo synonymous with Glashütte Original.
Clients can select between black or blue Louisiana alligator leather straps, sand-colored synthetic straps, or stainless steel bracelets, all equipped with a convenient quick-change system allowing for tool-free adjustments. For the first time, the folding buckle also features a quick-change mechanism, simplifying the switch between different straps, highlighting the progressive identity of these new chronographs.
Both models, the Senata Chronograph and Senata Chronograph Navigator, will be available at Glashütte Original boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide starting in August 2026.
