Global Solidarity Shines through The Power of Periwinkle for Gastric Cancer Awareness

Illuminating Hope: The Power of Periwinkle Campaign

The recent global initiative spearheaded by Debbie's Dream Foundation, known as The Power of Periwinkle campaign, has created a wave of awareness in the fight against gastric cancer. On December 17, 2024, the campaign illuminated iconic landmarks around the globe, showcasing solidarity for those affected by this devastating disease.

Collaborating with the My Gut Feeling Stomach Cancer Foundation of Canada and numerous other organizations, over 150 sites across five continents lit up in stunning periwinkle hues. This year's campaign reached new heights, featuring prominent landmarks such as Niagara Falls, One World Trade Center in New York City, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, uniting regions including North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand under a common cause.

The campaign's focal point was to bring global attention to the challenges faced by gastric cancer patients and raise awareness about symptoms and the importance of early detection. The illumination of these landmarks served not only as a visual spectacle but as a beacon of hope and a call to action within communities worldwide.

In addition to this remarkable campaign, Debbie's Dream Foundation hosted its own Gastric Cancer Awareness Illumination Ceremony and Celebration Dinner on November 9, 2024, at the renowned Guitar Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. This event gathered survivors, advocates, medical professionals, and supporters, creating a space to honor individuals making significant strides in the fight against gastric cancer. Approximately $119,000 was raised to support essential research and programs aimed at improving the lives of those affected by this illness.

During the ceremony, Andrea Eidelman, CEO of Debbie's Dream Foundation, expressed immense gratitude towards the collective effort in raising awareness and promoting research initiatives. "We are honored to participate in The Power of Periwinkle campaign and work alongside amazing organizations globally. Together, we are raising awareness, driving change, and empowering patients and families affected by stomach cancer," said Eidelman.

The Power of Periwinkle campaign featured the contributions of key organizations, including GI Cancers Alliance, Gastric Cancer Foundation, Associazione Vivere senza stomaco si può, StupidStrong.org, Project Periwinkle, and several others. This collaboration highlighted the strength found in unity as these groups work towards combating gastric cancer across the globe.

Debbie's Dream Foundation, founded in 2009 by Debbie Zelman after her own cancer diagnosis, dedicates itself to raising awareness and funding for gastric cancer research and patient support. With an emphasis on educating patients, families, and caregivers, DDF aims to transform the future of gastric cancer treatment and care.

Debbie Zelman's legacy continues to inspire many, as she fought valiantly against the illness for nearly a decade, advocating for increased funding and visibility for gastric cancer. Following her passing in December 2017, DDF has grown under her vision, establishing a network of medical advisors and chapters across multiple countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, and Japan.

By participating in The Power of Periwinkle campaign, individuals can contribute to a global movement aimed at making gastric cancer awareness a priority and encouraging groundbreaking research. For more information or to get involved, visit Debbie's Dream Foundation.
