Be Strong Launches New Leadership and Enhances Support for Youth Mental Health
Be Strong, a national nonprofit organization focused on improving mental, emotional, and relational health among young people, has embarked on an exciting new chapter in its journey. On July 31, 2026, the organization announced a significant leadership transformation that includes new Governance Board members, co-chairs for its Advisory Board, and the upcoming launch of a Student Advisory Board.
The announcements signify more than just an organizational reshuffle; they represent the culmination of over a decade's worth of strategic planning aimed at fostering a leadership model anchored in experience, empathy, and the principles of servant leadership. Central to this evolution is the belief that the involvement of young people is crucial in shaping the goals and priorities of Be Strong.
"An organization strengthens not solely because of a single leader but through a legacy of shared vision that spans generations," stated Ashleigh Cromer, the CEO and Chair of Be Strong’s Governance Board. She emphasized the importance of investing in diverse leaders who reflect compassionate values and a commitment to uplifting those in need. This new chapter is not only a tribute to those who have laid the groundwork but also an invitation for new leaders to step forward, ensuring that young voices contribute to crafting impactful solutions for their challenges.
One of the critical aspects of this transition was led by Jonica Armstrong, a founding member of the Advisory Board. Her vision for a sustainable leadership model that continuously nurtures new talents laid the groundwork for the recent appointments. With the addition of Erika J. Davis, CRP, and Dr. Pamela Morris Perez to the Governance Board, the organization now benefits from their extensive know-how in corporate leadership and youth mental health.
Additionally, Cheryl Ambrose was honored posthumously as a Legacy Board Member, recognizing her nearly thirty years of dedication to promoting occupational health and advocating for mental health and suicide prevention. Her legacy is marked by a deep commitment to serving others, which resonates with Be Strong’s mission profoundly.
The leadership trend continues with the appointment of Jesula Jeannot and Mike Pepperman as Co-Chairs of the Advisory Board, reinforcing Be Strong’s dedication to including a broad spectrum of perspectives. Jeannot’s journey from being one of Be Strong's inaugural Student Representatives to now leading its Advisory Board beautifully illustrates the organization’s philosophy of empowering youth. "Leading is essentially about serving, and I'm honored to step into this role," she remarked, highlighting the importance of community, compassion, and investment in youth development.
Pepperman, a strong advocate for Be Strong's mission as a father of three daughters, also expressed excitement towards furthering the organization’s outreach and impact. He underscored the importance of meeting young people at their level and fostering peer support, which is integral to the organization’s grassroots approach.
Reflecting on the future, Be Strong unveiled plans to launch its inaugural Student Advisory Board. This initiative aims to formalize the involvement of young people in shaping the organization’s future. It will offer insights into the current challenges faced by their peers and contribute to national awareness campaigns and program development. This strategy aligns perfectly with Be Strong's conviction that solutions must resonate with those who are at the forefront of these issues.
The upcoming changes in leadership additionally mark a transition period within the Advisory Board, with gratitude extended to departing members such as Christine Ackerson and Patrick Chapman for their invaluable contributions.
As Be Strong embraces this new phase, it retains a steadfast commitment to its mission; ensuring every individual is aware of the help available to them and instilling a sense of hope and community. By harnessing the collective expertise of its leadership and honoring the voices of young people, Be Strong is poised to create an even more profound impact on the mental health landscape.
