2026 Miss Amazake Grand Finale: Celebrating Japan's Culture with New Ambassadors

On May 16, 2026, the final selections for the inaugural 'Miss Amazake' took place at Kanda Myojin Hall in Tokyo, spearheaded by the Japan-based organization, Miss SAKE. This unique initiative, developed in collaboration with Bishoujo Zukan, aims to connect traditional Japanese culture, particularly the art of brewing amazake (a sweet sake), with rising stars of the younger generation. This fusion seeks to foster future ambassadors who will share Japan's rich cultural heritage both domestically and internationally.

The 'Miss Amazake' program serves as a platform for young women to explore and express cultural narratives rooted in Japan's traditional beverage, amazake. In recent years, opportunities for younger generations to engage with Japan’s cultural and fermentation traditions have dwindled. However, as the influence of social media and international exchanges grow, there is a surge of interest in Japanese culture among youth from abroad. This program rectifies the need for individuals who can articulate cultural stories in their own words and present them to the world.

During the final selection event, the 12 finalists were scrutinized by a panel of judges, which included prominent figures from various sectors, such as model agencies and the Japanese Nailist Association. The winners were determined and titled as follows:

  • - Grand Prize: Ai Shirai
  • - 1st Runner-Up: Sena Sato
  • - 2nd Runner-Up: Yuzuki Oka

The grand prize winner, Ai Shirai, will promote amazake and other elements of Japan’s brewing culture through various international activities and media engagements. Each award recipient will have the opportunity to share the charm of Japanese culture with a widespread audience, enhancing the representation of Japan's heritage.

Judging Panel Highlights:
The esteemed judges included:
  • - Yoshinori Iwata, Chairperson of the Japan Model Agency Association
  • - Miyuki Kaneko, Head of Carriere Nail School
  • - Matsumi Nagai, Vice President of Nagai Sake Co., Ltd.
  • - Risa Morimoto, Project Developer at Kobunsha
  • - Chisato Kanou, 2025 Miss SAKE

Special Awards: In addition to the main prizes, there were special prizes that recognized outstanding performances among the finalists.

Image Model Introduction:
The image model for 'Miss Amazake' is Hinaka Sugiyama, who embodies transparency and strong presence, acting as a role model for her generation. She plays a crucial role in disseminating the culture of Japan to Gen Z, which is essential for bridging traditional and contemporary interpretations of Japanese culture.

Comment from the Representative:
Mika Onishi, the Representative Director of Miss SAKE, emphasized the project's aim to connect young people with the future of Japanese culture. According to Onishi, culture is not only something to be preserved but also something that should evolve with the times. By using amazake as a gateway, participants can learn the traditional nuances of various regions and share them in their own words. This organic process will allow promising talents to emerge as cultural bearers in the future.

Since its inception in 2013, Miss SAKE has established a prestigious standing as a cultural initiative, nurturing ambassadors who promote Japan’s sake and culture internationally, receiving support from numerous governmental institutions. With the launch of 'Miss Amazake', the program will target a younger audience, including minors, creating a new stage for cultural advocacy while integrating the expertise and network established through Miss SAKE. The collaboration with Bishoujo Zukan integrates culture, youth, and media, representing a significant evolution in cultural outreach.

Overall, 'Miss Amazake' signifies a refreshing approach towards implementing traditional Japanese values within a modern context, promising an exciting pathway for cultural exchanges and understanding across generations and borders.
