On October 8, 2026, Aspen Digital, a program under the Aspen Institute, unveiled the remarkable solutions from the $60 million Workplace Innovation Now (WIN) Challenge. This initiative aims to transform workplaces by addressing barriers faced by women, ultimately benefiting communities and the wider economy. Out of nearly 900 applicants, 18 awardees emerged, showcasing cutting-edge innovations that tackle challenges from caregiving to the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
Launched in the fall of 2025 and supported by Pivotal, founded by Melinda French Gates, the WIN Challenge focuses on three central pillars: Culture, Practices, and AI. The forthcoming WIN Summit on October 22 in New York City will bring together leaders from diverse sectors to discuss and advance these innovative ideas. Melinda French Gates stated, “Workplaces have changed dramatically in recent years—but in many ways they're still shaped by the past.” She emphasized that the awardees have introduced transformative ideas that pave the way for equitable economic opportunities.
Among the notable solutions are innovative childcare financing models for rural areas, AI-powered scheduling software for hourly workers that enhances flexibility, tools that identify funding opportunities for small businesses, and initiatives aimed at upskilling employees in AI competencies. Further efforts seek to shift workplace culture by spotlighting often-overlooked matters, as well as emphasizing family-friendly workplace values.
Maria Acebal, Interim President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, praised the awardees for their impactful solutions that align with the urgent need for evolving workplaces. She remarked, “At a defining moment, as new technologies rapidly reshape how we work and who has access to opportunity, they are not simply responding—they are helping to shape it.”
The WIN Challenge not only highlights the selected awardees but also provides a searchable database of other proposals to serve as a resource for collaboration and investment opportunities aimed at reshaping workplaces for better inclusivity and support.
The diversity of applicants showcases the multitude of ways to create better workplaces for everyone, emphasizing that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. “These 18 awardees show us that there is no single blueprint to break down the barriers that women face in the workplace,” stated Clare Bresnahan English, Senior Director of the WIN Challenge. Such approaches are crucial as workplaces evolve amidst rapid economic and technological changes, ensuring that everyone can contribute meaningfully and fulfill their potential.
Aspen Digital aims to leverage its expertise in emerging technology and narrative change to unlock new opportunities, collaborating with the Institute's Economic Opportunities Program. The Aspen Institute, a nonprofit organization, has a long-standing mission of igniting human potential and addressing society’s greatest challenges through constructive dialogue and action.
Pivotal, established to accelerate social progress and enhance women’s influence, continues to support initiatives that dismantle barriers and create conducive environments for success among women and all individuals. As the WIN Challenge strives for a more equitable future, the innovative solutions unveiled promise a transformative impact on workplaces across the nation, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
