Craig Reed Receives Prestigious 2025 J. Shipman Gold Medal Award at ISM World

The Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) recently honored Craig Reed, CPSM, with the prestigious 2025 J. Shipman Gold Medal Award during the ISM World 2025 Awards Gala held in Orlando, Florida, from June 1 to June 3, 2025. This accolade, established in 1931, is ISM’s highest honor, recognizing exceptional service and contributions to the procurement and supply management profession. Reed's remarkable career spans over 30 years, showcasing his expertise across various sectors such as industrial, airline, automotive, and life sciences.

Craig Reed currently serves as the Vice President of Global Procurement and Chief Procurement Officer at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Leading a robust global procurement team of more than 800 professionals, he manages critical spending that significantly impacts the company’s operations, which generated over $42 million in revenue in 2024. Reed's strategic initiatives focus on enhancing cost productivity, improving supply assurance, and boosting organizational effectiveness while ensuring risk management and quality improvements across Thermo Fisher's global operations.

Upon receiving the award, Reed expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am deeply honored and humbled to receive the J. Shipman Gold Medal Award. This recognition reflects the collective efforts and dedication of my colleagues and mentors throughout my career." Reed's previous experience includes serving as the Chief Procurement Officer at Corteva Agriscience, where he was responsible for overseeing a global procurement team managing more than $9 billion in spend. His roles at prestigious companies like DuPont, Eaton PLC, Delta Air Lines, and BMW Manufacturing have allowed him to shape procurement practices significantly.

An advocate for expanding representation in procurement, Reed has engaged in efforts to elevate diverse suppliers and advocate for equitable access within the field. He has played a crucial role as a member of various boards, including the National Minority Supplier Development Council and Florida A&M University’s Board of Trustees, reinforcing his commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Reed serves as an educator, guest lecturing at esteemed institutions like Michigan State University and Howard University. He has developed supply chain management curricula aimed at preparing future leaders in the field. His extensive knowledge has also been shared on international platforms, from teaching procurement strategies in Dubai to presenting at high-profile conferences.

Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and a bachelor's degree in economics from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
