The 20th National Women's Forum in Saitama
On April 16, 2023, the vibrant city of Saitama hosted the 20th National Women's Forum, organized by the Women's Committee Council of the National Federation of Corporate Associations. With a compelling theme of "From the Colorful Country to a Shining Future - A New Era Created by Women," this forum attracted approximately 1,700 female business leaders from across the nation. The event took place at Sonic City and included the presence of many distinguished guests, such as the Director of the National Tax Agency and the governors of Saitama Prefecture.
The forum aimed to enhance the skills of its female members and to foster an environment of information exchange that invigorates the activities of their committees, striving to contribute to the community through tax-focused initiatives.
Information Exchange Seminar
Prior to the opening ceremony, the forum featured an information exchange seminar that emphasized the importance of understanding local government initiatives to promote food waste reduction. This seminar was divided into two sessions, with around 90 women committee heads enthusiastically participating and learning.
In the first session, Takuro Yamaguchi from the Saitama City Environmental Bureau delivered a detailed presentation on the city’s innovative “Food Waste Reduction Project.” His insights highlighted the local government’s proactive steps to tackle this pressing issue.
The second session was led by journalist and environmental counselor Yuko Sakita, who presented case studies demonstrating successful collaborations between businesses and municipalities in efforts towards food waste reduction. Her session encouraged participants to think creatively about how they could contribute to solutions in their communities.
Celebration of Educational Initiatives
During the main ceremony, attendees were treated to a video presentation showcasing educational and community contributions made by women’s committees in Saitama Prefecture. Additionally, the forum proudly displayed the 12 winning pieces from the national postcard competition for elementary school students, dedicated to tax education and under the patronage of the National Tax Agency.
As part of this initiative, the forum showcased 440 artworks that were selected from around 256,000 entries submitted nationwide. The high quality of submissions highlights the children’s creativity and ability to express their understanding of the significance of taxes. Guests and participants alike were deeply moved by the talent displayed in the artworks, stating they were "overwhelmed by the wonderful pieces."
The event elucidated the crucial role that women play in shaping the future through active engagement in community issues such as education and environmental stewardship. As the forum concluded, it became evident that the women attending not only represented their businesses but also served as role models for future generations, showcasing the power of collaboration and the impact of women in leadership roles in fostering social change.
