The 2026 Toshima Disability Employment Fair is scheduled for September 18th, coinciding with the monthly observance of employment support for individuals with disabilities. The event will take place at the first floor of the Toshima City Hall and the Toshima Center Square. Its primary goal is to enhance understanding and promote initiatives aimed at creating a society where everyone can work comfortably.
This year’s fair promises an array of activities, including lectures and panel discussions designed to shed light on the employment landscape for people with disabilities. One prominent speaker will be Mr. Koichi Kato, an advisor for the non-profit organization Bridge, which focuses on supporting individuals with disabilities in the workplace. He will discuss the theme of creating a work environment where both individual abilities can be realized, and where organizations can thrive. His insights will focus on fostering a workplace culture that enables all individuals, regardless of disabilities, to showcase their skills in a safe and encouraging atmosphere.
In addition to the lectures, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion featuring testimonials from users of the Toshima Disability Employment Support Center. This interactive session will cover heartfelt experiences related to job satisfaction and the accommodations that have made a difference in their work lives.
The fair will also showcase a variety of exhibitors, including welfare workshops from both within Toshima City and the neighboring areas of Itabashi and Nerima. Twelve organizations will present handmade goods such as unique crafts, baked goods, and coffee—all created with passion and care by individuals with disabilities. The event serves as a platform for driving economic opportunities and showcasing the talents of marginalized groups.
A spokesperson from the Toshima City Office commented, “We hope this event will facilitate social participation for individuals with disabilities by providing them with the opportunity to connect with businesses committed to inclusive hiring practices. Our goal is to inspire both local residents and employers to engage with and understand the contributions that people with disabilities can bring to the workforce. We invite everyone to attend freely and connect with this essential cause.”
