Moldova Sets GRUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ with Largest Human Grape Image

Moldova Achieves a New GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title

The Republic of Moldova has recently basked in the glory of a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title, achieved during the 25th National Wine Day celebration. This momentous occasion took place on October 3, 2026, with an impressive total of 8,493 participants who formed the world’s largest human image of a grapevine, which has become a national symbol of viticulture.

The event transpired in the vibrant atmosphere of Chisinau, Moldova's capital, where participants gathered at the Great National Assembly Square. This massive undertaking was officially verified by Pravin Patel, an official judge from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™, adding a significant highlight to the festivities dedicated to the country’s rich winemaking heritage.

The Creation of a Human Grape

The creation of the human grapevine was meticulously planned. Spanning approximately 39 meters, the formation followed a pre-approved template by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™, consisting of intricately arranged roots, trunk, branches, six bunches of grapes, leaves, and curling vines all crafted by the participants. To ensure clarity and recognition from above, participants donned different-colored clothing representing each element of the vine.

All who participated were systematically registered, with fixed positions assigned as stringent controls were put in place to prevent any counting discrepancies. QR code scanning was utilized for verification, ensuring that everyone contributed to this historic record accurately. After maintaining the formation for about 15 minutes, the group awaited the evaluation, during which judges observed compliance with over 30 technical criteria covering aspects such as participant positioning, compliance with the approved layout, and necessary photographic and video documentation.

Commemorating a Wine Tradition

Stefan Iamandi, the director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, expressed exuberance, stating, “For us, this achievement is certainly the most wonderful gift for the 25th edition of the National Wine Day. Hundreds of people came together to form a single vine, symbolizing our wine traditions and visually expressing this year’s message, ‘United by Wine.’”

This year’s anniversary celebration not only marked the new record but also significantly heightened participation levels, featuring 114 vineyards that sold around 114,000 tasting booklets—an increase of nearly 50% compared to 2025. Visitors from over 70 countries were in attendance, affirming the event's standing as the largest annual celebration dedicated to Moldovan wine.

Moldova’s attempt to break the record has become a cornerstone of the wine event, which continues to grow in stature and popularity. For the nation, it embodies pride in their agricultural practices and the deeply-rooted cultural significance of winemaking. The next National Wine Day is set to take place on October 2 and 3, 2027, promising even more excitement and possibility for new achievements in the future.

In summary, Moldova's accomplishment of forming the largest human grapevine image serves as a testament to their dedication to viticulture and community spirit—a true celebration of their national identity through wine culture.
